Roughly in which direction do I need to look for these planets in a line on 21st Dec.

Will decent binoculars be good enough ?

South/South West I think it is.
And you should probably see it with a naked eye.
 
Visible tonight in SW. Better with bins. It's very early after sunset as it quickly disappears below the horizon.
