So are you then saying that a trans female, who identifies as female, can't be locked up with other females because they were initially born with male genitals, where do we then put them. In a male prison? No
What about a trans female who suffers from physical and mental abuse from their male partner in a relationship? What happens to them. Are they not allowed to use the same facilities? I'm not sure what you mean here, which facilities?
You can say 'i follow the science', but isn't mental health a science also? I haven't said anything about mental health or not following it anywhere?
You are obviously much closer to the subject than I am and it is more emotive to you because you have had a child go through it.

I would say there is absolutely nowhere near enough mental health provision, especially for CAMHS in our area (I've no idea if NZ has much better provision for young adults?). I know several families who have tried to get mental health provision for severe anxiety, eating disorders and a couple of other things and their kids are are simply deemed as not 'at risk' enough, come back for an appointment in 18 months etc. this is obviously not good enough.

Humans are extremely complex biological machines. I don't see why anyone would think it's somehow anti science to accept that a person can be born with one set of genitals and identify as something else.
Nobody is saying that are they?

I have no issue at all with anyone 'identifying' as whatever they want and living their life doing whatever with whoever, as long as it's all consensual and everyone is happy to go along with it of course.

It is just the debate around trans rights is delicate and nuanced as many have said.

Can you just say as a blanket 100%, everyone who wants to transition one way or the other is then categorically not medically different to a 'natural born' male or female, I don't think you ever can. Should this affect their human rights, absolutely not.

Hi Caesium,

Yes sorry, typing that at work in between selling plants, so not always easy to sound coherent, although plants sales are going gangbusters :D
I meant by facilities the shelters and protection that abused people, both men and women, have access too.
Re the folow the science. Sorry, poor choice of English. I didn't mean you, as in the personal, but more 'you', as in they? I think.
Anyway, back to the game, and selling more plants.

Anybody want meyer lemons?

You can say 'i follow the science', but isn't mental health a science also? Identifying as another gender to the one that you are born with takes serious courage, I can't even begin to imagine what my daughter felt like going through puberty, when all of a sudden you just do not feel right, but can't put your finger on it.
We saw a real change in their personality, when they left home they ended up in hospital through drinking too much, finished and started university courses 2 or 3 times, and just generally drifted. Then, in 2016, during a holiday in the UK, she came out and told us. It was like a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. Over time, she returned the person she was before puberty, and we could see the same fun loving, easy going person that she was.
She is very involved in rainbow issues and rights here, has her own blog thingy, you tube vid etc. and I'm immensely proud of how she has turned out.
I missed this post NZ. All the best to you and your family mate. I can't imagine the challenges for all involved and I'm pleased things are going well
