Six nations starts soon!

That ‘forward’ pass looked marginal to me but not unlike most telling passes in the game that were ignored. Ref seemed a homer to me but I accept that folks will say its sour grapes on my part

The ref really did seem a "homer" to me too. But, apart from a few questionable flat/forward passes and that clearly wrong lineout push I can't put my finger on why. It probably is just sour grapes or bias. Or maybe we gave away so many penalties in the first half (which I actually didn't mind, because they were all do to us trying to be fierce at the breakdown) that we just got on the wrong side of the ref and he spotted a lot more of our penalties.

Same to me as well, but didn’t want to mention it as it wasn’t why England were beaten. Ireland fully deserved it for a dominant second half.

I thought England could win yesterday and could have with more of the ball. Not having the ball is testament to Ireland though. Fancy them to win 3 in a row now.

Ireland were the better team because they were allowed to gain momentum from the several penalties and scrums they were awarded. Whatever momentum we tried to gain was thwarted by the ref spotting ridiculous infringements

I wasn't that impressed with Ireland to be honest. I thought Prendergast was vulnerable and France will be all over him.

Thought the Ref was a complete homer.
Mitchell's pass was called forward but if you look at 2 of Irelands tries there was a forward passes in each of them in the build up..
Thought England kicked the ball away far to often as usual.

Yes thought Lowe's assisted try pass in particular was actually more forward than Mitchell's.

Looked non existent.
I also wish they'd clarify the forward pass rule so that if the ball travels forward it's a forward pass.
The forward pass rule doesn't need to be clarified. It's the officials that need to be educated - when a ball leaves the hands of the passer it must be at a trajectory at least level or behind him. France's third try was outrageously forward on Friday night and should have been picked up by the officials

Not just talking about yesterday but all rugby.
You can always see forward passes clearly in the replays. I wonder why TMS don't automatically check for this when a try is scored?
Or is that too much like VAR

The key word here is 'him' i.e. the passing player. Many people mistakenly judge 'forward' relative to the pitch, not the passer. This fails to account for the momentum the ball already possesses.

Not just me then. I rarely watch rugby and really don't care for the game very much but the football game I went to yesterday was called off so I ended up in the pub and the rugby union was on. To my uneducated eye there seemed to be a number of forward passes as alluded to above.

You need a telescope to watch Italy v Wales.

Wales are persisting with kicking it every time even though it's proving astonishingly ineffective.
