Simon Jordan's attitute to IPTV

I've a mate who works in a specialist police unit and she said one of the things people don't realise about iptv is it's generally all fronts for international ocgs so whilst we see it as generally harmless to watch a bit of footy, the money flows to some unsavoury people
Surely everyone realises this??? Or do people hope IPTV is being run by a friendly family business with great ethics and a progressive mission statement?

I think it's the fact that anyone can become an iptv reseller because of how it's sold so most people buy it from a bloke down the pub, a telegram group or someone on fb marketplace or someone who knows someone on a forum, so that gives you the acceptable friendly face as they're usually on a page or a group taking requests and sorting issues out etc

These people aren't the people actually providing the service though, there's a few large groups that do it and it's sold on en masse

Jokes about sky aside, it's a big source of money laundering funds and finance for bad causes for these groups.

I'd say worst of all is the popular "got a link?" area though. Your pc had better be fully up date and sandboxed from ant key data if using one - they're fairly aggressive with malware and that's what finances them- password theft, identity theft, compromised machines for botnets etc

I don’t have a VPN and my general experience with them is that they disconnect without telling you, which is annoying.

But that’s also an illegal activity anyway.

I agree it's annoying there is no legal way to stream the boro away to Millwall on Saturday your options are find a free stream or use vpn to use boro live. I go for the vpn route as feel it gives the boro money and also they are in on it providing a list of countries it's available to be streamed on.

Your right there should be a legal market though then folk wouldn't be doing the illegal activity.

I am sure this is correct, but the music industry has already shown what the solution is. “Fighting” it didn’t work, embracing it did. Bands have had to modify their models to generate revenue.

The age old argument that it will affect lower league attendances barely washes anymore given how few matches in the top 2 tiers actually kick off at 3pm.

I think my point is that the users are surely not naive and innocent here. Instead they are purposefully not asking themselves the question of who is behind it because they know they won't like the answer.

I know someone who has IPTV who he gets it from a What's App gadgey. He described how he ran it as totally professional but also said he was 'probably dodgy as fcuk' and 'you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him as you don't know who he knows'. So he is very aware of the reality but chooses to ignore it.

One of his reasons for not buying it direct from Sky is they are 'ruining the game' and he doesn't want to support this!

I certainly wouldn’t get IPTV. I much prefer to go to my local pub which shows all the 3pm games via a special deal. None of that pint glass thing in the corner blocking out the screen, and being from Dublin, I love the adverts for Dunnes stores, reminds me of my younger days in Billingham.

One of the things music streaming seems to have delivered is higher prices for concert tickets - in effect artists are making less through publishing so tweak revenue through other channels.

If clubs were earning less through TV deals, would they try to recoup rev through other channels - merch and matchday tickets?

This isn't true though. It is true lower down the spectrum but the biggest acts making the most money from streaming are also charging the highest prices. They will charge whatever they can get away with.

Same with the PL. Prices have never gone down as TV revenues have gone up.

I bet Sky aren't really that bothered either. The extra eyes let's them flog advertising to increased numbers so they aren't losing out as much as they'd claim.
Rupert Murdoch who owns Sky says get rid off the licence fee and let advertising support the BBC but him and his ilk want it both ways. Amazon prime was free of adverts now they put them in the most inopportune moments.

Possibly, raising the prices of matchday tickets again when all matches are accessible via legal streams doesn't feel wise.

They might try to raise the price of merchandise, which would be good news for DH Gate.

Don't think RM is anything to do with Sky now.

But I bet the new guy at the top isn't short of a few bob lol.
