Signings of Hoppe and Forss

Feel strange right now. Money spent on them 2 I would of preferred to just paid bit extra for likes of Larsen or Thomas Henry or any other lads we targeted who could of been our main men. Wilder calls them developmental strikers so in other words club signings.

I would of been much happier if it as just the 4 strikers of Larsen, Muniz, Watmore and Akpom. We have been let down and more importantly Wilder has been let down.

I think most of the signings we have made will prove to be good ones but it’s not enough I don’t think. Ah well, roll on Monday

I was happy enough with them but I thought they'd get game time with the amount Wilder likes to rotate the strikers and make subs early.
Yeah and the fact he is going with a 10 shows he’s not much faith. Needs to bite the bullet next game and play either Watmore or Forss alongside Muniz. I’m looking forward to Akpom coming back he will probably be a starter until January at least

Both are international footballers, this new word of “project” players is very fashionable at the moment but it’s to my mind crazy.

I know we don’t know the numbers involved but it could be over £5 million. If that figure is close surely we aren’t in a position to spend that sort of money on players who aren’t ready for the first team.

All depends on actually how much they cost.

Wilder may not have wanted both or either, but the Akpom situation shows that where circumstances dictate his mind can change.

I had expected Forss to start more games than he has.

If those players would rather go to the top Spanish and Italian league than an English second division, there may not of been much we could do .
So perhaps it’s a case if we wanted a project and a main striker and and have the cash for both one didn’t rely on the other .
What I think can be a bit false is saving money for January , if we have the cash surely spending it now for 100% of the season and the last half

Can understand Hoppe being described as a "project" player but in fairness, Forss is fairly well experienced in the Championship - he played nearly every game of Brentfords' promotion winning season. I'm still hoping there's a lot more to come from him and that he'll potentially form a partnership with Muniz.

I would have liked for us to have made a marquee signing and spent a bit on a striker but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I think Muniz will do well for us, we just have to hope one of the other strikers can step up to the plate.

I can't imagine they were sold the club on the basis of being 'project players' either.

Both are internationals, played in top European leagues and for Hoppe, going into a World Cup.

Forss will get more game time as the season goes on, and we were probably thinking of doing that by choice anyway, after we and he got more settled. But if we don't get another, we're going to be Forss'd into it, hopefully, he takes his chances.

Perhaps there is an element of Wilder using Forss/Hoppe lightly so far to make a statement to Gibson. Or perhaps he wants McGree in as an extra midfielder because he sees the same problems in midfield I am seeing.

They'll both get more game time, especially if our business is genuinely done, I'm not sure we can afford to play McGree as a 10 with Howson's injury.

Dijksteel will come back in the defence, McNair will be in midfield by necessity or we'll play Mowatt in Howson's spot and McGree will drop back.

Some have suggested that McGree is playing because we need the extra midfielder now that we no longer have Tav, but he was still playing McGree pre-season, when Tav was still here.

I know we were massively short of strikers but I do get the impression that he highly rates McGree and wants to accommodate him into the team.

Feel like I’ve been saying this on here so much for weeks that it’s like a broken record.

Spend the money on first team players that the manager wants. Fill the gaps with projects and loans, but only after you’ve got a first team.

Is it better to have saved 3m on not buying Larsen and having a bench warming project, but finish 5 points short of automatic because you didn’t have a goalscorer for the first 7 games? Is that good business when the reward is 120m?

Wilder said Hoppe cost far less than was being reported.
It’s easy to look and say “we should’ve added £1m to that bid instead” but the reality is that deals are structured in, sometimes, very complicated ways. This isn’t Football Manager.

I agree, I think he looked at the games against Swansea, a team who like to pass it for fun and Watford, a team with players who shouldn't be anywhere near the Championship and thought it a way to put an extra body into midfield.

I think (and I'll probably be wrong) that we'll see Muniz and Forss on Monday night

I've absolutely no profligate with the club investing in players who they hope to improve and sell on at a profit - in fact we should be doing it a lot more.

Hoppe and Forss will both contribute this season, but I expect to see Muniz and Akpom as the regular two.
