Should Howson get a testimonial?

Consistent, reliable and endearing. It's enough to be well paid and recognised for those qualities by the fans who watched him for 8 years.

I'm not sure who our last testimonial was for or when it was, but they're getting rarer and rarer in the upper leagues now.

Craig Gordon just had one last week. Sunderland v Hearts. Not sure if they are more popular in Scotland?

Can't remember the last testimonial at Boro.

Dael Fry is 10 years since his debut this year which is probably more deserving of recognition that Jonny Howson's time at Boro in my opinion.

Our record low non-behind closed doors attendance is 1000 during the covid experiment - I reckon a Howson or Fry testimonial would trouble that record

Hasn’t Jonny Howson played like 100 more games for us than Dael Fry?

Yes I saw that where he played the first few minutes. He has a real affinity with Hearts after many combined years with them so I totally understand the desire to give him a celebration of sorts.

Many Scottish footballers will not be on wages you can retire on (Obviously Gordon had an English PL contract in the past) so they may well be more prevalent in Scotland.

Bit surprised we haven't had one of those departing player statements from Howson - loved my time there, fans were great, I'll always look out for their results etc. Especially when he was here so long. Maybe I'm being too needy. Maybe he hated his time here, fans were mediocre and he only looks for Leeds results.

That was surely just repurposing a friendly though, I'd be fine doing that, but a match specifically organised for a player seems a bit much for me nowadays.

Not least because of the awkwardness if the crowd is low.

He is coming back so fans can properly thank him and say goodbye.

Todays that's more important than the money.

Howson could probably afford to retire if he wanted too.

Who was the last Boro player to have a testimonial? At the Riverside, I remember Bernie having one that he’s still bitter about and there was a game for Maddren against Inter Milan, though not his testimonial. Any others? Did Mustoe or Fleming have one?
