Shell and their 2022 profits just announced

Oil companies and nearly all of the major supermarkets making record profits. Cost of living crisis innit, only passing on increased costs they said. Tesco even selling wonky fruit on the cheap cos every little helps.

When all the prices, petrol, food etc. shot up me and Mrs F said it would be Inter to see what the company resu would look like. Well here we are, ripped off again.

This is capitalism guys, get in the real world...

I'm sure most of you have indirectly invested with these companies somewhere in your financial portfolios and pensions...

But when the cap fits....
Thanks👍
There is capitalism and then there is neoliberalism - this is definitely the latter.

Take it you are absolutely cool with this, if not getting a little aroused by the figures quoted?

BTW I haven't invested one single solitary penny with these shysters, so my cap fits nicely thanks 👍

No wonder the f@ckers offered me a DD reduction a few weeks back, trying to soften the blow of them taking the p!ss. I was going to keep on paying the same to get my fallback topped up for next winter....but that's going to change, it can go into my back pocket not theirs 😡😡😡

I'm sure if you have a pension then you almost definitely HAVE invested with the oil giants ....👍

I started writing a considered reply to your posts then thought “nah fcuk it; he’s a bell end and not worth it”!!
That's fine by me, but don't try and deny that pension funds are massive investors in oil companies....and therefore if you have a pension then you are indirectly invested in the likes of Shell and BP 👍

Nobby is the king of whataboutary. His notebook seems to be the only thing on here where he doesn't come across like a total and utter heartless doyle. I really hope he is just constantly on the wind up but I am coming to realise that he's not.

It's called living in a democracy.....you should celebrate that/me 👍

Our country is getting less democratic by the day. You keep celebrating that. They will eventually come for you (y)

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

Come on people it's not all bad news...

British Gas have promised to stop breaking into your house if you don't pay your bill! 🔥 👍 🤦‍♂️

The boss of British Gas is truly sorry that his thugs have been found out.

Whilst the profits are obscene and it's disgusting to read, aren't Shell Dutch?

Edit:

Oh they aren't anymore. I never knew they were British now. That's shocking

I’m currently working with Shell. Pretty much all of their activity is international these days. They do have interests in places like West of Shetland but not many more in the North Sea.

That said, their profits are ridiculous and nothing to do with sound business management or investment. They should be paying more tax than they do.

Biggest profits since they made $31bn in 2008 ($45bn in todays terms).
That was when the oil prices were at $150 a barrel.
The following year the profits dropped by 52% and they laid thousand of workers off.

Lets hope they have the same outcome next year.

Shell only make 5% of it’s profits in the Uk and have stated that they do not expect to pay any UK tax this year as it is allowed to offset decommissioning costs and investments in UK projects against any UK profits.

Aren’t they headquartered in Britain? Then they should pay our tax.
extracted from a news articel today

Shell initially said it was not expecting to pay any of the windfall tax at all for 2022, as its investments in the North Sea meant it did not count as having made any UK profits.
But on 2 February it announced that it would actually pay $134m (£108m) for 2022 and expected to pay more than $500m (£400m) for 2023.
BP said it would pay $800m (£678m) in windfall tax for 2022.

Should be front page news with any proper journalist worth their salt digging into the many reasons why companies are able to make record profits why nurses/teachers etc are forced to strike to try and get a fair wage.

But of course that won't happen because proper journalists are few and far between and they certainly won't be getting jobs with the biggest "news"papers anymore.

Meanwhile here's more made up "proof" that Prince Andrew isn't a sex offender.

It’s not about journalism. It’s the economic model the UK has followed for 40 years. Probably more than that but Thatcher’s neoliberal hatchet job accelerated it. If you’ve ever voted Tory this is what you’re endorsed.

So that’s between £322,000,000 and £966,000,000 in tax on £32.2 billion profit.
Only if the entire £32.2 billion was generated in the UK. According to @Norman_Conquest's earlier post, only 5% of their profits came from their UK operations, and they don't expect to pay any tax on that after offsetting decommissioning and investment costs.
