Shell and their 2022 profits just announced

Well ain’t that just lovely for them.

I’m sure it will help to warm the hearts of people who are slowly freezing to death.

Gives you a warm fuzzy feeling inside doesn’t it? Yet we are told these rates are unavoidable.

Doesn't come as any surprise.

Just hope they get taxed accordingly. Here's hoping.
Are you crazy? They'll just withdraw their business from the country making us all poorer. Trickle down economics innit. Grow the pie. People will end up not being able to pay their energy bills and turn to food banks if you tax big businesses more on their obscene profits.

Oh wait, hang on a minute........

Full on revolution would be nice, France 1789 revisited

** looks at pitchforks and flaming torches on Amazon **........

Until there is some sort of revolt, they’ll just keep doing it won’t they. It’s easy. They know the general man or woman on the street NEEDS energy to run their homes/vehicles.

No say on what the bill is that comes through the door at all. Captive audience. It’s just so easy for them.

Its a F***ing disgrace, I'm livid.

What the hell has happened to our country
Shell only make 5% of it’s profits in the Uk and have stated that they do not expect to pay any UK tax this year as it is allowed to offset decommissioning costs and investments in UK projects against any UK profits.

Aren’t they headquartered in Britain? Then they should pay our tax.

Shell is a truly global business and a massive business - my guess is 95% of their profits are made outside of the UK.

What is important to me it how much of their profits are taxed. If say 25% of the profit is paid in UK tax, that's a lot of Government revenue. I don't know the percentage btw.

This is capitalism guys, get in the real world...

I'm sure most of you have indirectly invested with these companies somewhere in your financial portfolios and pensions...

But when the cap fits....
Thanks👍

Oh dear - just read Shell are only paying 1% to 3% in UK tax. Some how they are able to off set all theor profits against the cost of decommissioing. Did you vote for that?

I bet a fully qualified nurse/teacher on £27k a year, paying 26% of their income in direct taxes (income tax, national insurances, graduate tax) is enjoying reading that, if they have the time and energy to.

Why would you expect Shell to pay tax when our MPs don’t pay it!

It is utterly rancid.
IF they were investing in renewables in our territory, rather than returning the bulk of their profits to shareholders, THEN they might have a case not to pay the tax.
We have had lazy Governments who are happy to outsource everything and be under the thumb of multinationals and other brighter more forward thinking nations.
And all this because those in Government are huge beneficiaries of the real "trickle down" from these multinationals plus.

There is not a joined up thought in our politics, nor one that even lasts past the next News at Ten headline, or Sun front page.
