Sheffield Wednesday

Assuming Rotherham lose to Cardiff on Saturday, then a Sheffield Wednesday win will see them survive. It got me wondering what the lowest number of minutes a team has spent outside the bottom three is, while surviving!?

I wonder how late Wednesday would have to score against Derby to set a record?

(Am I right in thinking Wednesday haven't been out of the bottom three yet)?

Tried to Google it, but failed to find anything....

Dunno.

I know its PL but WBA under Robbo had hardly been out of it hadn't they?

Even with the points deduction, they were out of the bottom 3 on the 1st of January and the 9th of February.

They're the only times this season, as far as I can see.
But the many rescheduled matches this season have meant it's rare everyone has played the same number of games.

Thank you for the correction regarding Wednesday and the bottom three! Bit of a shame, as it makes a difference in record terms. Can't be many times a team has spent an entire season in the bottom three and survived... but Wednesday aren't that team now anyway!

West Brom were actually 17th on 9th November 2004 when Robson took over. I don't know how many weeks they were out of the bottom three before that, but I imagine there were some.

(As mentioned in above posts, Wednesday have been out of the bottom three anyway... so I was getting interested in the idea of some possible record without good reason)!

Hope Wednesday go down
I was there in 1989 , and the absolute glee their fans had at our relegation is still etched in my memory
Yeah. I'd most like Rotherham to stay up, but it seems like the least likely outcome. I can't really seem them beating Cardiff, in which case Derby just have to avoid defeat.

Would have been good if Rotherham had beaten Luton last night.

The thing is that all the games are played on Saturday and KO time is the same for all.
It would be foolish and inviting danger if Derby to set out to play for a draw.
It's certainly going to be squeaky bum time time for all three.

C'mon Rotherham.

Id most like to see Derby relegated given their dubious dealings. Not fussed about Wednesday either way. Would be nice to see Rotherham stay up but it doesnt look likely

All three are great days out watching football but would prefer Sheff Wed to stay up over Derby if Rotherham fail to win.

In 88/89 I don’t think we had been in the bottom 3 all season until the last game or two...obviously the opposite scenario as in the op.

My personal preference, in order:

Rotherham stay up (don't mind them as a team and haven't been to the new ground yet)
Wednesday stay up (would be nice to have the steel city derby to look forward to again next season, a high profile, local match)
Derby stay up (the thought of them going down is my sustenance this week, please make it happen)

I was disappointed in Luton last night as I had convinced myself that they would prefer a championship with Rotherham in it next season rather than Derby and would have just gone through the motions, but they looked like they wanted to win the bloody game at times🤬

I think we should ensure we get beat by at least 13 goals on Saturday just so Mel Morris accuses us of cheating🤭
