7th? I’m trying to think of 6 Prem playing South Americans better than Juninho and I can’t think of any better than he was during his first spell?
Granted I’m biased but still, 6??

Who are they?
Suarez?

erm……think of the most iconic goal of premier league history

Teves, perhaps. TLF stands above the other two IMO
When you look at who he had around him (sorry Stampy) how he did the things he did was astonishing

I’d have to concede Aguero goes above him.
Tevez too, given the goals, clubs and trophies.
Mascherano is a no from me, but then I don’t know if that’s just because they are such hugely different players it’s hard to compare.

Shearer's list was:

1. Aguero
2. Fernandinho
3. Suarez
4. Tevez
5. Gilberto Silva
6. Gus Poyet
7. Juninho
8. Alexis Sanchez
9. Veron
10. Asprilla

Just had a look and seen that he’s got Ferdinandinho, Gilberto Silva and …Gus Poyet in there. Hmmm.
Different strokes for different folks I suppose…

When you see the list below from Wiki, he does well to be listed in the top seven.

Apologise if I have missed any South American players or countries off.

Argentina Argentina

Carlos Tevez won the Premier League at Manchester United and Manchester City
Sergio Agüero has won four Premier League titles with Manchester City, and is the highest scoring foreign player in Premier League history

Bolivia Bolivia

Brazil Brazil

Colombia Colombia

Costa Rica Costa Rica

Ecuador Ecuador

Antonio Valencia won the Premier League twice with Manchester United

Honduras Honduras

Mexico Mexico[edit]

Peru Peru

Uruguay Uruguay

Venezuela Venezuela

Shearer's an idiot.

Juninho aside, off the top of my head I'd say Coutinho, Firmino, Allison, Ederson have all been better than some on that list.

Wasn't Veron widely regarded as a flop here? (Brilliant elsewhere but that's not the point). Poyet scored some eye catching goals but didn't offer much else. Not a regular for Uruguay.

Asprilla, FFS a mighty 18 goals in 61 games for Newcastle and his arrival arguably played a part in disrupting the team and blowing their title hopes. Actually come to think of it maybe he should be number 1 that reason!

(Shearer as a Newcastle fan surely puts Solano is in ahead of Asprilla?)

Shearer's comment was tongue very firmly in cheek about Middlesbrough. I know banter is a dirty word nowadays but not everything people say is literal, he also wound Richards up about not going to Sunderland as they couldn't afford his million pound bonus (listen to previous episode).

As I mentioned on a earlier thread Micah had TLF 6th above Poyet as he thought Poyet was a bit boring, stating he just scored goals from midfield and that he would rather watch players like Juninho.

Personally I enjoy these little MOTD podcasts and think the chemistry between the three of them works really well, especially when Micha Richards asks Lineker about his career as he cant find any footage of it.
