Series 'Des'

Enjoyed it. I remember reading a lot about it at the time but had not remembered he was the one who called dyno rod out about the blockage

Watched it the other night. David Tennant was excellent.

I never really looked into and read about Dennis Nilsen before. Couldn't believe how brazen he was.

Since watching the documentary, I've read about his 'story' and 'life' and what a sick and twisted individual he was.

David Tennants resemblance to Nilsen was uncanny. Thoroughly enjoyed the series. Judging by the documentary they stuck to the story pretty accurately. Cannot help feeling very sorry for the families, partcularly those whose sons were never identified.

Not to be compared with the Fred West two parter in OTV which is everthing that Des wasn’t, badly acted all round and not really very interesting.

focuses on a social worker who seemingly falls under Fred west’s spell or she just wanted him to disclose more about his crimes depending on who you believe. Does anybody remember that?

Haven't seen it yet. Don't know how his arrest is depicted but I remember being at college in about 1980 and a police sergeant coming in to do a recruitment talk to us. He told us that at the scene of the arrest, Nilsen was chinned by a copper?

Not seen it yet either

Thought it was excellent. Tennant got his mannerisms off perfectly. Think there are actual home videos on youtube that he recorded with his mate on a camcorder in the flat. Quite creepy.

Apologies I meant the Feed West series, either been on or coming soon not to sure
I see. I thought one of us was going mad 😡
The Fred West two-parter is called Appropriate Adult.
Originally broadcast in 2011 it was repeated this week on itv. Available on catch up.

I thought the drama was excellent and I remember the case from the time and thought tennant was brilliant in his portrayal.

I started to watch the real story documentary but I had to turn it off, as there’s one thing depicting the story in a drama but it quite another to see and hear the real Nielsen who did kill and chop up the bodies boast and almost crow about how he did it with no sign or remorse.

I thought that was a step to far and felt as though nilsen was once again calling the narrative.

I read Killing for Company back in the day, and it was a difficult read obviously but from what I remember of his personality, Nilsen was well played by David Tennant: just an average guy with some weird, unwired brain that made him think his actions weren't that abnormal. It helped that DT looks a bit like DN, but Tennant played it really well . I also thought Appropriate Adult was an interesting watch, from a different kind of perspective. Dominic West was excellent in that.

Just to say, for me, Daniel Mays seems to spoil all the good things he's in (Ashes to Ashes, White Lines, Mrs Biggs and that) He's too over acty for me, especially when it isnt needed.
I wont mention Code 404 out of niceness :)
