The last time we flew out of Lanzarote we collected our bits and bobs from the tray in security and started to walk towards duty free i couldn't find my wallet, so we searched pockets bags etc panicking slightly as you do . Then i returned to the end of the xray machine and told the security man i had misplaced my wallet he casually put his hand under the machine and retrieved my wallet.
genuinely fell through or scam? i don't know.
 
You’re lucky as it clearly says check items before leaving the security area as in bigge airports you’d have been screwed.
