Sean Dyche, the new Everton manager

He may well keep them up, hope not but hey ho.

The Everton fans will not be best pleased if he treats the cup competitions like he did when at Burnley.

I think there's a lot of undeserved snark towards Dyche. He is undoubtedly a pragmatic manager like Benitez who will do his best to put round pegs in round holes and get his team playing simple, organised, effective football. You could easily see him taking over an underperforming team like Stoke and getting them promoted within 18 months.

That said, I'm not convinced he'll work at Everton. A bit like when Pulis took over us, several players will undoubtedly down tools, many will have zero respect for him and he'll have almost no initial buy-in from the fans. If he doesn't get a win in his first three games, Everton could implode. Still, a fighting draw or win against Liverpool could turn everything around.

As Leo and then Carrick have shown, it's not necessarily cutting edge tactics that turns around an underperforming group; it's that group's belief in the manager. Same as our players had no faith in what Robson was asking them to do but responded immediately to Venables. Everton have a group of players where a majority may well regard themselves as better than Dyche.

I’d be appalled if I was an Evertonian - from Ancelotti to Dyche in a couple of seasons oh dear. Awful angry gruff man whose teams are the same as him.

Looks like he'll have £45m to spend after Newcastle have reportedly agreed a fee with Everton for Anthony Gordon.

£45m for Anthony Gordon. Staggering

Actually I replied to the point that was ‘his football is a dying breed’ which I disagree with

Will be interesting so see how he gets on. I don’t think he’ll save them. I can’t see how players who are over payed and think they are better than they are will respond someone like dyche
I can see players like Tarkowski and Coady responding to Dyche but I others like Demarai Gray and Iwobi may not do so.

Great post

A good appointment in my book. Even if they go down they’ll have a good chance of bringing them up

I posted his masterclass video yesterday so think he’s got a tactical brain that frank lampard didn’t
It is a really good video and showed a different side to him. What struck me was the clarity of his communication.

I hear he’s after Fraser and Gyokeres.. Chuba is on Everton’s radar (apparently) not too much of a stretch to take reports linking Isaiah Jones to Crystal Palace and add Everton in the mix..

£40m burning a hole in disc beard’s pocket

RW Isaiah Jones £12m
AM Chuba Akpom £8m
LW Ryan Fraser £7m
ST Viktor Gyokeres £13m

£20m for Chubs and Jones? We should look at swapping them for DCL, as long as he passes the medical 😉

Chuba isn’t giving up cult status.. and I don’t think Isaiah Jones has his CSCS card.. a minimum requirement for any Sean Dyche player
