Saturdays matches off - Official from EFL

So blackool will be a midweek game i presume. Spoiling many planned weekenders there. Are boro fans still going or cancelling hotels?

Absolutely obscene decision. At a time when people are struggling thousands will lose out on travel and hotels already booked. Can’t wait to see how much her funeral will cost the taxpayer as well. I think with her death we should now have a referendum on the continuation of the monarchy.

We (republicans) would lose I think.

After a few years of Charlie boy though.........🤞

Yes but for all the people on here who want games to go ahead, there will also be other fans, players, stewards, referees, bus drivers etc who want to stay at home or buy flowers, go to Buck Palace or whatever and do not want games to go ahead.

She was the head of state, the country is in national morning, this is a once in 70 year event and I agree with all sport being called off for this weekend only.

Bonkers decision.

What about the European games next week? Are the FA going to insist British teams can't play?

There’s always one who has to take the controversial view just for attention…. Touché
There’s nothing remotely controversial about supporting a decision to pause sporting events to mark the passing of the monarch of the last 70 years.

I wonder if the authorities were worried about fans at certain clubs not known for their affection for the Establishment showing emotions that weren't in tune with solemnity/ mourning.

That was my thoughts also. It would do the reputation of football no good if minutes silences were interrupted by people who chose not to respect it.

But there'll surely be a minutes silence at the next game anyway so you still have that problem.

Liverpool are prime candidates for it and they're playing at home on Tuesday. Not sure how 3 days makes a difference if that's what they're concerned about.

I work at university and we've got an Open Day tomorrow. Many have. Seems odd that a family of four can drive from London to Leeds and spend a day on campus but the same group couldn't go to a football stadium.

Fair point. I think this is why minutes applause have become more common place in order to drown out any dissenting voices. Not sure what the right answer is myself.
