Saturdays matches off - Official from EFL

Ridiculous decision and out of touch with reality. At a time when the country needs lifting as well as the economy what is the sense of this? A days mourning on the day of the funeral would suffice. I hope fans are going to be fully reimbursed for the money they will have spent on travel, tickets and accommodation.

Honestly it’s bull. Hardly good for the nation’s economic or mental health. Mass gatherings enable respects to be paid with minutes silence etc. Are we meant to sit at home watching Nicholas wringing his hands for 10 days ? Full shut down on funeral day by all means.

So much for democracy when an elite priveleged few dictate to thousands if not millions what they have to do. In 2022 this is anachronistic and will not go down well with the masses.

A walk with the dogs instead it is then - was looking forward to going to Blackpool as well, having not been there since Archie Stephens scored the only goal there in 87. Trying to contact our accommodation now to see if they’ll have any sympathy and give us our money back 🫤

At least all the fringe events for Darlington Blues Festival are going ahead. Saturday evening and Sunday sorted.

As many have said, should have gone ahead. 2 minutes silence, black armbands, national anthem etc.
Horse Racing is back on Sunday.
The country and many of its citizens is far removed from what it once was. This extended period of mourning seems at odds with the modern world.
Just my view of course and others will feel very differently and that's fair enough.

All this does is actually decrease the amount of respect anybody had for the royal family, taking millions out of the economy and trashing peoples weekends (and in some cases Businesses), it's like being in east germany or north korea, and people on here claiming people not showing respect?, give me a break, they all saw this complete nonsense coming, a country still iving in the dark ages sums up the UK

"..others will feel very differently and that's fair enough." & that is the point, they can have a moment or day to reflect themselves... the whole country doesn't need to stop..

Fecking fed up of seeing people getting on their high horses telling football fans to show some respect and that it’s just one weekend.

I've been vocal about the disrespect shown by some members of this board but I do think the games should have gone ahead.

I have a friend who lost his mother on the day he was supposed to play in the Eliis Cup Final at the old Normanby Rd Ground, South Bank. His sisters told him to go and play and win it for his mother - he did, but it must have been hard for him. I don't think he showed her any lack of respect by playing in the game.

Let them eat cake !

Newly right wing comedian Joe lycett would probably disagree.
What fun to cancel the plebs sport , wall to wall royals on TV, radio no better, ram it down their throats. After all they are paying for it ,
£ billions latest estimates.

Absolutely obscene decision. At a time when people are struggling thousands will lose out on travel and hotels already booked. Can’t wait to see how much her funeral will cost the taxpayer as well. I think with her death we should now have a referendum on the continuation of the monarchy.
