Sander Berge

They're currently 12 points ahead of us with a game in hand.

We would need a miracle to even have a chance of catching them. Sander Berge or no Sander Berge.

We are on an amazing run and yet we are still potentially 15 points off them.

We have to expect we will have a blip at some point - 1 win in 4 or something....and we're expecting Sheff Utd to have an almighty blip.

Not going to happen.

We need to consolidate a Play Off spot as soon and as quickly as we can.

Reading are 16th and they're closer to us than we are to Sheff Utd.

From 3rd to 12th there's 6 points (with plenty of teams with 1 & 2 games in hand on us).

Give me a play off spot (3rd or 4th) now and I'd bite your hand off.

Can I remind everyone back in January 2016 , we were 10 points clear of Burnley with a game in hand . Then daft Spanish lad had a meltdown, threw his toys out the pram , because Gibson had the audacity to sign the best striker in the league. By the end of the season Burnley finished 4 points ahead of us .

Well it’s effectively February’s and it’s 12 with a game in hand. Our squad is no where near the level of Burnley back in 2016

I don't think Sheff U are better than us, I think we are both slightly better than the rest.
Sadly I don't think we will claw 12 points (plus extra match) back in just 17 matches.

Love to get 2nd
Expect to get 3rd or 4th.
Need to get 5th or 6th.

But with Sande Berge gone...their main man...he makes them tick...watch how their belief in what they are doing will begin to wither....in the coming weeks...with the knowledge that berge has gone (if he goes) and what he brought to the team....with Sheff utd playing tough opponents...
if Berge goes...i'm putting money on us defeating them at their place.
Nydiaye may also be going. If he goes they are truly screwed and would drop like a stone in the next 10-15 games. With only Berge gone...Boro will catch them - of that I feel certain.

They're probably not as far ahead of us as the league table suggests (our poor start held us back) but I'd say their squad is slightly better and they've had longer to fully implement Heckingbottom's style.

Berge is their best player but they've still got NDiaye, Egan, Bogle, Ahemdohdzic who I'd say are all as good, if not better, than our best players.

Delusional. We would have taken midtable in October

as keegan once said i'd love it, love it if we caught them.

big ask though but our progress is promising, this time next year rodney! 21 points clear!

dream on lads and lasses there is no way we will catch Shef Utd I will be delighted with top 6 if we make it, although if we win the next 3 games .......:)

Not a great comparison.

After 29 games in 2016 we were 2 points ahead of Burnley with a game in hand.

This season after 29 games Sheff Utd are 12 points ahead of us with a game in hand.

Sheff Utd next fixtures:
1 - Rotherham (A) - Derby won't be easy
2 - FA Cup replay vs Wrexham
3 - Swansea (H) - Swansea 14 days rest, Sheff U 4 days rest
4 - Boro (H) - we're on form, particularly on our travels and they will know a stumble will leave them vulnerable if they haven't won the Rotherham and Swansea matches
5 - Millwall (A) - always a tough game
6 - Watford (H) - despite how poor they were against us, they're a decent team

These might get re-arranged if they beat Wrexham. But are immediately followed by Blackburn (A), Reading (A), Luton (H), Sunderland (A), West Brom (H), Norwich (A). That's a horrific set of fixtures coming up, with possible fixture congestion too. 11 games, where it's feasible they only get 12 or 13 points. We need to be ready to take advantage if it happens.

If we win all our fixtures in February and none are rearranged and they drop 5 or 6 points and also lose to us, then it is race on. I think are fixtures after February are pretty favourable, but all ifs and buts. I would be happy with the play-offs. To have a chance of automatic after where we were in October and given the form of Burnley and Sheff Utd, it would be pretty mind-blowing!

Sheff Utd owner pulled plug on potential Berge departure

Prince Abdullah, Sheffield United owner, decided he would not entertain any bids for midfielder Sander Berge, despite interest from Fulham and Newcastle, Sky Sports can reveal.
In the end it was decided the club needed to keep its best players, whatever the cost, in order to maximise the push for promotion.
Sheffield United are currently second in the Championship.

Boooo!
