Sander Berge

No, of course its not impossible, but it highly unlikely.

They're one of the two outstanding teams this season (which Blackburn never were last season) and it would take an incredible implosion of form to drop enough points to allow us to catch them- we'd have to pick up 13 more points over 17 games, not sure what odds you'd get on that!
It's 12 points the gap I think? If we can bridge the gap then we may well make up the goal difference as well.

It is massively unlikely but if we beat them at Bramhall Lane then that's a 9 point gap, if Berge does go then could definitely derail them.

Even if they do implode there's nothing to say it would be us that would pinch 2nd off them like, west brom are going well as are Norwich.

Never say never though.

It’ll be a tough ask for us to pip them to second spot although I think the Sheff U board have possibly counted their (promotion) chickens before they’ve hatched maybe

My son who lives in Sheffield says there fans are scratching their heads wondering how they are second, that are certainly not outstanding.
I agree that they’re not an outstanding outfit, but they seem to find a way to win through their physical presence on the pitch. Berge definitely will be a big miss for them as he has the ability to start moves off and finish them. Norwood is probably going to have to pick up a lot of the responsibilities from Berge. I’d be surprised if they don’t also bring in a few players.

Sounds very much like he is on the verge of leaving going off their manager’s comments tonight:

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom has spoken about the transfer speculation surrounding midfielder Sander Berge.

After the 3-3 draw with Wrexham, he said: "He's not here because we have been asked not to use him. Our club is speaking to other clubs regarding him.

"It's a club decision to protect that asset. I am not going to say I agree with it but I understand it he wanted to play today.

"It doesn't mean he is going anywhere, Sander is happy here. But the situation we find ourselves in mid-takeover, transfer embargo and no clarity on which way it is going and financial issues.

"One way to resolve the issues is to sell a player. Everyone knows my thoughts on it. We are ready if the worst happened and we lost Sander.

"We have worked hard to put this squad together in terms of the balance and how competitive we made it.

"The simple thing for me is to keep it together but we find ourselves in difficult times financially and it means there may be some tough decisions that have to be made. I have to be prepared for what happens."

I wouldn’t be surprised if they lose both Berge and Ndiaye, given they were prepared to accept a bid for Ndiaye the other day.

They need an embargo to be lifted before they can

They are very physical and as we found out last season can play at a very high intensity that most teams struggle to live with.

Will be amazed if we can catch them, with or without Berge. Much better squad than ours, which is to be expected with their recent PL stint.

When I have watched Sheff Utd this season I haven't thought them "exceptional" or a "class above" they do what they do well and have a core belief and confidence in themselves. Compared to Burnley they are nothing like as good, Burnley really are a "class above" the rest of the division, SU are marginally better.

Now margins are important but they are also... marginal and small changes can remove that advantage the loss of Berger, some extra games in the FA cup and a suspension, perhaps a couple of draws and a loss...

Who knows.

Their fans are pretty split on Heckingbottom. A lot of them seem to think that they would be better with a better manager but it's hard to see how that could be from the outside. They've been going along at 2 points per game since he took over 55 games ago. Even if they lose Berge, it's hard to see them imploding to the extent they would need to for us to catch them.

Sunderland to do us a favour in March and beat them allowing us to go level, delicious!!

Oh, and Brit to bang a couple in against them in Feb, payback.
