Vokes told he can leave Stoke .
Would he be a good option for us ?
although 31 year old , back up for Uche .
Limited games last season , fitness could be an issue . And not prolific , Gayle would be a better option on loan

Not for me now. He has never been prolific even in his pomp. I think his wage demands might be too high too, which is probably why Stoke want to unload him. He has another year on his contract. He wont leave Stoke unless his palms are crossed with a lucrative contract. I hope one of the relegated teams buy him.

I think he might be in for a bit of a reality check if he thinks he can get one last big payday out of anyone given his form over the last few seasons. I'm sure his agent will try though.

Wouldn't be shocked to see him go abroad somewhere after running his contract out (a la Gestede, Shotton).

It's a no from me.

I really wanted him to sign for us when he was linked before he went to stoke, always thought he looked a handful for Burnley but he’s been dreadful since he went their.

Id maybe consider taking him on loan if Stoke were paying most of his wages as he may pull his puddings out to get his next contract.

Nope not for me. He's probably been on very good money and coasted over the last few years. Just another none scoring forward who's 31.

I genuinely would much prefer Smith from Rotherham. He's 29 and only Keifer Moore won my headers in the champo last season. Also I imagine a fraction of the wage.

Sat in a meeting with Kit Symonds, then manager of Fulham in a hotel foyer, and Sam Vokes (then Burnley…Fulham’s opponents that evening) walked over and gave Kit a man hug. After he left, Kit said he’d like to sign him, not for his goals, just for his ability to occupy defenders and let his better players exploit the space he created. Said that Curbishley (then some sort of technical advisor to the club) blocked any deal. Symonds was sacked during the following week.

No thanks want players with drive ambition and potential not over the hill players looking for final pay day
I am not saying Vokes is the man for us, but one of the best players I have seen in a Boro shirt was placed in the 'over the hill' category and played in one of the best Boro teams I've watched - Bobby Murdoch. He went on to teach a young Souness the arts of midfield and we all know what he went on to achieve.

Sometimes you need a mixture of old and young heads.

Bobby Murdoch was a kingpin in a great Celtic team that won the European Cup and should have done again versus Feyenoord but for a pay dispute (Glad they didn't). Murdoch had been an outstanding player.
Vokes has always been crap.

I agree with both accounts of Murdoch and Vokes, but Celtic still thought he was surplus to requirements or they would have paid him what he wanted.

I was making more of a point of needing a mixture of old heads - Murdoch struggled to run when he was with us but made the centre circle his island.

We have Howson, Hall, Morsy, Crooks, Peltier, all players you could class as players with experience. Even McNair has had plenty of experience now. We just need good players and thankfully Warnock is looking to find these and I’m happy with what he is doing so far

I think Murdoch was only 28 when he signed for us.

You've pretty much answered your own question there.
