Salah - Footballer of the Year

I’d give it to Salah now but definitely not a “No brainer” particularly if City win the League and champions League. Then De Bruyne would have a claim.

De Bruyne always in with a shout but Salah has been the best player in the world this season in my opinion.

De Bruyne has been excellent but he has played 600 minutes fewer than Salah (62% of City's minutes this season vs 87% for Salah of Liverpool's), scored half as many and assisted half as many. I know they play different positions so comparing goals/assists isn't apples vs apples but Salah has been at least as good, probably better, and for more games so it makes sense that he should win it.

I get the general premise of what you say but your assists figures are out. De Bruyne has 12 assists to Salah 14 this season and if you divide that into minutes on the pitch which you were kind enough to mention then De Bruyne has comparable figures. Salah goals of course swing it and agree he should get the nod.

Fully deserved but I've never understood why they do all these awards before the season is over.

Nathan Jones is Championship manager of the season, and he's done a fantastic job, but he might well finish the season with "failure' and the likes of Corberan or Cooper might deserve it more

Yeah like I said above it’s been announced a month earlier than last season.

I was using the Premier League's stats which is league games only:

That has Salah on 13 and De Bruyne on 6.

De Bruyne has 6 in CL and FA Cup. FWIW the football writers award is about the whole football season , not just the Premier League.

Sensible choice. Him and De Bruyne have been the top two all season but for me if I had to choose between the two it would be Salah all day every day.

He will also be a shoe in for PFA player of the year too. They used to announce that at the PFA dinner on the night of the League Cup Final which was always very early but now they leave the announcement to much later.
