SAGE scientists tell UK to begin Plan B in meeting on 14th October

As per usual Boris Johnson ignores the advise and tells us to keep calm and carry on.

What did Albert Einstein say? “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

I just hope people remember this when they try to blame the scientists by saying they were "following the science"...

Yes, following it two or three weeks later.

I have to say though that I don't think there will be a "Winter Lockdown" as such. Perhaps a return (overdue) to compulsory mask wearing on Public Transport and in places like Supermarkets. But the dawn of the new antiviral drugs like Merck's Molnupiravir should mean that we continue to die at an acceptable rate...

Lovely thought isn't it?

I don't think we'll have a lockdown either. The public wouldn't accept it anyway.

I am out in Cyprus at the mo. You are checked at every shop for your double jab paperwork and masks are compulsory in all shops. No paperwork or mask then no entry. It's 25 degrees+ at 1900 and nobody is kicking off because of the inconvenience. The death rate is low and spread is also low. It's about time the Government thought more of the people than money.

I think there will be a lockdown in the not too distant future. They will want to do all they can to let businesses make money over Christmas

If its not “accepted” then those people lose every right to legitimately criticise anyone, government, scientists, antivaxxers. Those who consider themselves above government mandated measures bear greater guilt than anyone else.

The public would accept it I think. Johnson hasn't helped himself by proclaiming freedom day was irreversible.

I honestly don't know why he did that? Or indeed why he keeps making promises he knows he can't possibly guarantee he can keep. Can he just not help himself or is it just targeted at his "base" who lap that stuff up (like Trump supporters)?

Surely most right minded people, regardless of political persuasion, just find it annoying though?

But those businesses won't make money over Xmas.
Hospitality for example are taking bookings for Xmas dinners/parties/get together now and have been since the end of August. A lockdown wipes all those Xmas bookings away as people will believe then that lockdown measures are in place until the clocks go forward again and will want their deposits back. With no deposits restaurants cannot plan Xmas menus, stocks required, staff rotas etc. Game over.

Would you be surprised if Plan B was introduced immediately after this COP meeting in Glasgow?

with the eyes of the world on it a vain, shallow **** house of a man would delay making a decision to the immediate benefit of the country to instead appear to have beaten Covid and saving the universe at the same time?

So 90% of the Country have to suffer and go back into lockdown because 10% of the Country won’t get their jabs! Put more pressure on the 10%. Make it harder for them to go into public places (vaccination passes etc) rather than forcing the 90% back into their homes, masks etc.

He’s not set a plan B target on the infections rate so we could go to 100,000 a day. It’s hospitalisations and the ability of a morale shattered NHS having to cope with many nurses having gone back home. That’s his barometer. Its what he keeps saying and hospitalisations are on the rise. He is desperate for over 50s to get the booster jab to slow that hospitalisations rate. That’s his focus.

Trouble is the hospitalisations rate wouldn’t rise if infections weren’t rising as quickly as they are. He’s a complete fool. Masks policy should have been implemented last week to help.

NZ are about to launch a State of Victoria mantra. “No Jab, No Fun”.

The anti vaxxers will hate it but it’s getting to be the solution.
