He was distraught last night at the FT whistle.

I wonder if that's because we had a deal lined up, if we got promoted?

He's said on a few occasions that he loves it here and how the fans have gave him everything, so I wonder if his reaction is because it's his last game for us?

He's clearly a boyhood Wolves fan at heart, so it wouldn't shock me if he returned there and tried to break into their first 11, however, that looks like a tough nut to crack as I don't think he's ready for PL football and Wolves have a couple of decent LB's ahead of him.

I'd love for us to sign him on a permanent, however, I think, going from his reaction at FT last night, and his kisses/waves to the North Stand, it looked like a permanent goodbye.

Touched the badge and blew a kiss at the North stand when he composed himself. I couldn’t work out if it was goodbye or “next year”.

I'd imagine a promoted team would take him in a heartbeat, a few of them play wing backs as well.

If not then I don't think it's crazy to think he'd be back here.

Regardless of a dip in form, I would love him back, but unfortunately I don't think he will be loaned out again, and we wont be in a position to stump up the transfer fee (maybe 10-15 mill?).

A real shame, defensively he can be found out at times (but that can be worked on) what cant be coached is what he offered going forward, and the quality he naturally has in his delivery.

I think lower prem or potentially a promoted team will end up snapping him up this summer. Best of luck to the lad if they do.

Risky for a promoted team to take him, most of them aren't exactly attacking or will be having much of the ball next year, and will probably want someone better defensively. Have to set your team to the game you're playing etc.

He's probably got a better shot at one of the more established prem teams, like Wolves, but not Wolves as they have that position covered.

Don't think many would spend more than ~8m, look at what happened to Spence and there was a lot more hype around him. There are a lot of decent wingbacks about too, not exactly in short supply.

It's the prem contract too, he's probably going to be wanting 30k a week, which is another £6m over 4 years, so an 8m fee plus other fees, probably £15m total package in that.

For someone with a wand of a left foot he should be shooting and scoring far more goals
I can't work out why we don't score many from set pieces. Giles has excellent delivery but never seems to be great at taking free kicks and corners. Barlaser is the same. We're just rubbish at getting on the end of things. Lenihan does get to a lot of crosses but the ball just bounces off him, he must have a weird shaped head.

Perhaps - in all honesty the 10-15 mill price is a complete 'finger in the air' guess from me, the day I can work out how players are valued is the day I'll eat my shoe! 😂

We have no height up top (or aerial ability other than centre backs), every team knows this, so if they aim to cut out the low ball our free kicks and corners are exceptionally low risk.

Same with having McNair on corners, sure he's a good dead-ball striker/ crosser, but if he's taking, it's one less person to aim at and you're also risking a centre back, high up the pitch for it. We would likely be more of a threat if we had a lesser ability cross, and more aerial threat.

Yeah, I think values have come down a bit too, Covid skint a lot of clubs and teams seem to be trying to be more smart with their money.

At times that is true but even when we've played with Crooks up front with Fry and Lenihan at the back that's 3 big targets. That seems fairly standard for most teams.

You don't have to be massive to win headers from corners though. It's about timing and making the right runs. Liverpool have scored a lot from corners over the last few years and they only really have the 2 at the back that are big.

Agree, not necessarily down to height, but down to aggression and desire to get your head on to it.

The Luton CB is an example of it.

Crooks aint a striker though, he's like Chuba and doesn't get many goals when playing there, so that's only a midfield option and if he's in midfield we likely won't be good enough.

Lenihan's not that big is he, and not sure on his goalscoring record but don't remember Fry scoring many headers, last defender who did get goals was Ayala I think?

Yeah, it's not all height, but more aerial threat, which we don't have one who has a good record for headed goals, who would likely be a starter.

Look at who Liverpool have for taking crosses though!

Was a nice moment when he touched the badge. It did feel like goodbye to me as he knows may be difficult now, but hopefully not. Would love us to sign him.

This was my point. We have Giles who has excellent delivery but it rarely results in goals.

We had McNair taking corners in the last 2 which is ridiculous when he was one of the few with any height. He should have been in the box.

We tried a season of having giants that win headers with Flint and Ayala and our goals from set pieces went down even though we had twice as many due to the long throw*.

I was just reading an article on how the number of goals scored from corners have gone up in the PL because teams have dedicated set piece coaches now. Maybe that's the sort of signing we need to make in the summer.

*Just reminded me how I don't miss watching us in those days!

Great point - Flint was the biggest disappointment in terms of attacking threat.

He came with an average Champ strikers goal record, and didn't get near a cross for us! 😂
