Ryan Giles signs..

Some unheard of striker or a more familiar name, like Cannon/Archer? What do people think?
I would imagine it will be someone we all have to ‘youtube’ to know who he is. Archer and Cannon would not only cost too much but would blow our wage structure to bits.

Archer must be out of our price range surely?
It’s potentially less risk pushing the boat out now bringing Archer in than taking smaller risks every season on players with lower odds on them succeeding . I look at it has 50 plus goals between latte and archer , that’s top 2 with everyone else’s goals . Personally I think he’s coming once the dominos effect takes place . Villa have already brought a few quid in .

Smith still isn't fit enough to train fully yet.

Could be waiting for him to prove he can be before sanctioning a move.

That or it's just that they haven't found a buyer yet.
That was my thought, I wouldn't be surprised if Smith isn't ready for the start of the season.

I don't think Smith plays for us next season, but you've got to feel for the bloke after going through what he has.
Good luck to him whatever.

I do think we need another goal machine striker, or a massive improvement in quality (and hence goal output) in at least two of those who play regularly 'in the three'. I like McGree, Azaz and Jones/Forss. But I think we need more goals from them to get a comfortable cushion in games. Too many games against 'weaker' opposition, and in general to be honest we need to either be more clinical, or tighten up at the back (which I don't see us doing).

The dream is an expensive deal for Archer with options loaded on with promotion.

And a late in the window free Jelly Vossen style campaign to get Akpom back for a season😍.

Not realistic, but if we've got the coin, a boy can dream......

You are right, not going to happen... But we would be frightening.
What it does show tho is we aren't far off. 3 more quality signings and no (major) outgoings and we should be challenging.

Additional point. Those saying we shouldn't be blowing funds on Giles, we don't know how much our plan is to spend. There could be another £10m floating in the pot....

I remember when Giles was playing for us away at QPR in 2022 - he must have put in 9 quality crosses in the first half alone I have never seen that from a Boro full back away from home.

Burnley away - he allowed two dangerous crosses into our area that resulted in Burnley goals which was not the best defending, but he was left in one to one situations against a very decent Burnley winger. Its rare that Isiah Jones is left in one the one situations when attacking at the Riverside against opposing teams defending a lead/draw. To me the best way to use Giles is for him to work closely with another left sided player who defend together and attack together.

I wouldn't be against signing Archer but only if Carrick would be willing to commit to changing the formation and going with wing-backs, which would allow us to play Archer and Lath together as a front 2.

If we sign Archer then realistically we wouldn't be able to afford to make any more signings, but I wouldn't like to think we'd sign him to sit on the bench, when we could have used to money to sign a quality LW/10.

This team below would certainly be a force to be reckoned with if we did switch to wing-backs.
