Russian Olympic Committee

I can see your point and it frustrates me that Russia seem to have got away with it. However there are some athletes who were not on the state drugs programme and if they proved as such then it was deemed unfair to ban these athletes, hence they are allowed to compete but not under the Russian flag.

It is all but under the Russian flag, they could be allowed to compete as independent maybe, but this ROC thing is a farce.

Yeah that’s was kinda my point. If there’s Russian athletes who weren’t involved in the institutionalised doping then they should be allowed to compete under the olympic flag, like others have in the past. But the ROC is basically just Russia. Even the commentators earlier were just referring to the ROC as Russia.

The silver medallist in today’s 200m Backstroke Murphy of the USA has just kicked off a storm in the press conference by virtually accusing the gold medallist from Russia of being a cheat. The fallout will be interesting.

Yeah because there’s never any Americans who come from nowhere to smash everyone else! We won’t even talk about the two Bob long jumper Florence Griffiths-Joyner!!😀

They should just let everyone use performance enhancing drugs to add to the authorised cheating such as high altitude training, running spikes, therapeutic exemptions etc.

Doping is funny isn't it? Linford Christie was wheeled out on GMB this morning as some kind of Olympic Hero. Or poor Mo Farah missing tests and training with a convicted doping coach. All Heros. But them naughty Russians...
Brits don't cheat .
Wiggins , Froome , Cavendish , Thomas et al ........ clean .
Pogacar , however?

For me (as someone who watches a lot of cycling) there was nothing to suggest Pogacar was doping. Not sure where it came from either, didn't see many journos going down that line.

I love the Olympics and athletes are Innocent until proved guilty of doping. Christie went from a fast skinny bloke to a super fast, pumped up, muscular bloke in very little time and was eventually caught. Whilst I reckon all the sprinters were at it at the time but his achievements are tarnished forever in my eyes. Always said I would stop watching athletics if Bolt or Mo were ever proved to be cheating and you have to be concerned by the Jamaicans in particular, as their testing regime is noted to be very ineffective.

Some doping looks small change when you look at cases such as Marita Koch and especially Jarmila Kratochvilova. Apparently, rigorous training and high doses of vitamin B12 were responsible .

"In 1983, Kratochvílová broke the 800 m world record with a time of 1:53.28. At the World Championships shortly afterwards, she set a world record of 47.99 seconds to win the 400 m.
Kratochvílová's 1983 400-metre world record of 47.99 seconds stood for two years until it was broken by her great rival Marita Kochin 1985. Koch's 400-metre world record of 47.60 seconds still stands as of 2021. Koch and Kratochvílová are the only women who have broken the 48 second barrier in a 400-metre laned race. Her 800-metre world record is the longest standing track record in men or women's athletics, and was described by 1996 Olympic champion Svetlana Masterkova as ".. very fast. It's impossible for women to run so fast. It will last for 100 years."
Kratochvílová was a late developer, not breaking 53 seconds for the 400 metres until she was 27, and she was 32 when she set her world records"

And I believe in the big Pink Pixie in the sky....

I am VERY concerned about Farah but he's never failed a test so we can only go by that.

I was fortunate to get to see him win the 5000 meters at the Olympic Stadium a few years ago. Great night and I hope and pray he wasn’t cheating. Beer was expensive mind 😀
