Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Belarus, United States...

My job dictates that I keep a close eye on geopolitical events like Russia and I’ve been pouring over peter pomerantsev’s podcast, Brian Whitmore (The Power Vertical) and Mark Galeotti (In Moscow’s Shadows.
Have to say, the mark galeotti and Peter pomerantsev podcasts are quite superb but Brian whitmore is average in comparison
Mark and peter really know their stuff!!

Crikey how things have changed since I posted that! Got the bit right about Russia not being as strong as people fear tho! I really like BW’s podcast, he gets some excellent and very relevant guests, not checked out PP’s one so I’ll look it up 👍🏻

Smoggle;
Surely though you have to marvel at the mark galleotti podcast. My word, he is so well informed regarding Russia and clearly has insiders together with astonishing knowledge on Russian cultural heritage.
I honestly struggle to listen to the BW podcast after a dozen of mark galleotti podcasts.
He offers an insight and nuanced intellectual opinion (all on his own) that BW really can’t touch.

MG latest podcast today was absolutely brilliant.

I love Mark Galeotti, he’s outstanding. However, he was the co-host of the Power Vertical with Brian Whitmore at RFE/RL before BW moved to CEPA and took the podcast name with him. Sadly they’ve not collaborated since to my knowledge, but BW regularly namechecks him so no animosity. BW gets absolutely top quality guests, the podcasts with the former Estonian president are excellent 👍🏻

Edit: I’ll check out the latest MG podcast as soon as I can, funnily enough I’m in London today visiting the Russian embassy to tie up some loose ends, sizeable display over the road in support of Ukraine.

Just subscribed to him, cheers.

Just listened to it on my drive home, really good. Sent it to Mate who speaks Russians and who lived there for a good while .
How fantastic is that podcast !
MG really sees this crisis as it is but beyond it and around the edges which are all extremely important.

Peter P was on the five live show (Nihal) last week at 3.25pm (Tuesday or Wednesday I think) and also offered a fantastic take on putin and the conflict generally. It was so good I went back on bbc sounds and taped it to my phone for future play back…

Yes, very good. I just wish that I had known about it before. He measured and gives a balanced view.
