A story first reported in the New York Times on Friday about Russia paying Taliban soldiers to kill British and American soldiers.

Sky has been told that the group responsible for the plan is the 29155 unit of the GRU, the same Russian intelligence outfit behind the Skripal poisonings, and the failed 2016 coup in Montenegro.

News of this Russian plan, and the direct targeting of British troops, will again raise the question of when the long overdue report into Russian interference by parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) will be published.

Surely this can't go unpunished?

Back in the 80s/90s it is of course well known that the CIA funded the same groups to fight the Russians.

Then there's evidence that the CIA funded ISIS so it wouldn't surprise me if the Russians were doing the same

It's all about dwindling resources and pipelines really isn't it.

The irony being if we could all just fecking get along we'd be able to utilize those resources to move to new sources of energy

It will have been between 1979 - 89 that the US were funding the taliban against the Russians. They were also backed by Pakistan, Iran, Saudi, China and the UK.

CtC I thought the Russians were the goodies.

Any excuse to knock the UK, I noticed it was the polices fault for them getting a good hiding in Glasgow.

Afghanistan has been a mess since 5000bc. The question you have to ask is it it right to get involved , if you don't you leave Afgans to the mercy of religious nut cases.
