Roughly half way through the season - rate our signings?

If we consider which signings are first 11 or first 11 by the end of the season. I would include

Dieng
VDB
Engel (he does defend and his low crosses have produced/involved goals like on Wednesday night.) - Giles was excellent pushing forward with accurate quick crossing so yes we are missing Giles.
Latte Lath

Not convinced Rogers and Silvera are or will be - first 11 - Rogers should have hit the ground running straight away as he had played in the Championship and Division 1. For most of out signings its been a big jump to English Chmapionship.

Quite a few of the others have had limited game time to show their abilities in the League.

I got the impression in the Summer, we had to raise some transfer cash and cut a bit off the wage bill - hence the prediction of 10th position finish from 4th. I doubt we spent all the £10.4m from Akpom.

27 points after 21 games EXACTLY WHERE WE WERE LAST YEAR

Dieng/Steffen - Dieng looks a lot more comfortable on the ball.. maybe Steffen was a bit too showbiz?
Glover/Roberts - looks like a decent replacement
Jones/Daniels - ditto

Engel/Giles - Giles got 11 assists in 43 games.. 4 assists in the 2nd half of the season
Bangura/Bola - 4 goal contributions in 9 appearances from Bangura
Agyemang/Fisher - I really hope Agyemang can kick on.. maybe in midfield?
VDB/Hall - could be one of the best signings we've made

O'Brien/Mowatt - superb replacement, but unfortunately injured
Barlaser/Payero - flash stats, equally as frustrating

Greenwood/Ramsey - 6 goal contributions from Greenwood (we didn't sign Ramsey until January who brought in 5 goals)
Silvera/Walker - 5 goal contributions

Latte-Lath/Akpom - 7 goals.. one goal behind our record breaker

Rogers/Ridley - 3 goal contributions.. 2 less than Ramsey.. the new Marcus Tavernier
Gilbert/Cornet - tricky start.. but he's made 3 appearances and looks promising

Coburn/Muniz - 4 goal contributions in 15 appearances.. exactly what we've needed from him
Nkrumah/Evans - a work in progress 20yo 1 in 3 at academy level

JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Archer/Hoppe - TBA

REAL TALK:

Chuba Akpom 28 goals
Cameron Archer 11 goals
Aaron Ramsey 5 goals
average 14.6 goals a piece

Chuba Akpom had 8 goals after 21 games last season
Emmanuel Latte Lath has 7 goals (Riley McGree has 7 goal contributions)
Sam Greenwood has 6 goal contributions
Morgan Rogers has 7 goal contributions
Sam Silvera has 5 goal contributions

RETURNING IN JANUARY?

Riley McGree
Marcus Forss
Lewis O'Brien

you've got to say that with a strong transfer window and players returning that we should be in a better place than we were last season.. Tommy Smith and Darragh Lenihan are huge losses.. but we didn't expect to see Matt Clarke back and Anfernee Dijksteel has popped back on the scene.

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT
Not sure a fact based analysis is what is needed right now Newy. ;)

VDB - Class. Has had a couple of wobbly moments but for a young lad he looks like he’s going to go far.

Dieng - Love the guy. Commands his box and has made some great saves. His distribution is class too. Composed is the word I’d use to describe him.

Latte-Lath - Decent. Puts himself about, can’t criticise his work rate. I think he’ll get better the more he plays. Can see him getting double figures.

Rogers - Difficult one. I think there’s definitely a player in there and he’s shown moments of genuine quality. Just needs that consistency.

Silvera - Not convinced. He doesn’t look strong enough for this league. He’s quick, buzzes about, but I haven’t seen anything from him that’s convinced me he’s good enough at this level.

Engel - Decent. Thought it was curtains for him after that Sheff Wed game. I feel sorry for him sometimes as he takes up really good advanced positions and the ball doesn’t come to him.

Bangura - Really like him. I think his energy down the left is much needed. He’s always on the go, gets stuck in when needed too.

Gilbert/Glover - Cant say.
VDB - Looks great at CB looked pretty poor as a full back. 7 for CB and 4 FB
Dieng - Beeing pretty good. Good distribution too. 8
Lath - Finishing and first touch lacking but great in the air and quick. Scored a few goals 6
Rogers - shows occasional flashes but first touch, decision making and strength not good enough for a number 10. A poor mans Ashley Fletcher. 4.5
Silvera - Looks ok sometimes against tired opposition when coming on late. Looks miles aways from the required standard when starting 4.5
Engel - Slowly getting better after a nigtmare first few games. Not sure if he will be the required standard but he is improving and can't knock his effort 5.5
Bangura - Has looked bang average, no big mistakes so far 5.5
Gilbert/ Glover - no seen enough of them yet
Greenwood - Had a couple of excellent games. anonymous in lots of others. Has he the quality or strength to play as 10 in our side not so sure but he simply doesn't have anywhere near the pace to play out wide. 5.5

Dieng - 8, he's been a superb signing and has barely put a foot wrong, great value for money and hopefully a long term number one. Just a shame about AFCON.

Van den Berg - 6.5, been used all over the back line and has largely been solid in every position. Young and will surely get even better, a good signing. Would probably be higher if he'd not been used as a right back for most of his time so far, but that's not his fault.

Greenwood - 6, scored some great goals and popped up with a few assists but he's largely on the peripherary of most games and needs to improve.

Latte Lath - 6, poor first touch and finishing, but he's absolutely rapid and grafts. Could end up being a really good buy if he improves, but at the moment it's a lot of money for an unfinished article.

Engel - 6, awful start to his time here, but he's overcame that and has been a solid player for months now. I like him.

Rogers - 5.5, looks raw as anything and has put in some stinking performances, but he's scored some cracking goals.

Silvera - 5, as above, but I'm knocking off half a mark for that shocking miss.

Bangura - 5, definitely harsh on him, as his performances have been fine (probably another 6), but a fairly expensive signing considering we'd just given Coulson a new contract and he's here as a back-up.

Glover - 3, looked rubbish in all the cup matches, and it was idiotic to sign a back-up keeper who was also likely to be away in January when our first choice keeper is away.

Gilbert - 3, expensive as **** for a player that can barely get a look in.

Jones - no point in marking him, a cheap 3rd choice keeper and he'll do his job.

Giles wasn't much better defensively. Obviously Giles compensated for it by how effective he was going forward, but I actually think Engel is unlucky, in the sense that he can take up some great positions and his team-mates don't play him the ball.
Engels a much better defender than Giles. he defended well against both hull and ipswich. There was a few sloppy moments but not defending more on the ball. Giles also played in a much better team.

Engels is really impressing, a tough start when he first dropped, no prep.. right in at the deep end.

Giles was a really canny lad.. but his 4 assists in the 2nd half of the season are reaching mythological status!

I think they have all done alright. Especially when you consider the age of some of them.

This is probably the most football many of them have ever played over half a season (ish).

Also apart from Lath no real big outlay financially. They are all bought for the future. Yet due to necessity thrown in. The likes of Rav/Greenwood and Rogers all arguably playing out of position.

I don't think any have been a disaster.

I mean we once spent 21mil on Fletcher / Saville and Flint 🙄
