Rooney almost joined Boro

Had never heard this story before.

Apparently when he was still at Everton, Chelsea had agreed a £50m bid. As part of the agreement they were going to loan him to us for a season. How amazing to have had prime Rooney playing for us. Hard to believe it but it came from a recent interview he was doing.

Why on earth would they have loaned him to us and not back to Everton?

No idea, makes no sense considering he was already a pretty complete Premier League player as soon as he started at Everton. He could have walked straight into the Chelsea side.

Would think it was complete nonsense if it wasn't a direct quote from him

They had just gotten Mourinho hadn't they, and he was never a fan of playing youngsters, maybe it was more of a club signing than the manager.

I understand that but Rooney was already world class and by far Everton's best player rather than a prospect!
