But instead of bleating about needing to play in the CL he should just come out and say his head was turned in the summer by an obscene offer from Saudi Arabia and he’s hoping a bigger club will match it. Now he’s realised they won’t he’s going to Saudi. I really think people would respect it more than this circus he’s created.

Worked out ok for Beckham with the move to MLS.. if Ronaldo is the new face of Saudi football and can legitimise and grow the sport over there. Well he won’t be short of a penny or two!

Another beckham myth he never sold the sport over these as most Americans hadn’t heard of him ( as a footballer) he was so famous he chose a basketball an ex players no another cynical gimmick.

American journalist Sean Wheelock disagrees with the assumption that the current popularity of MLS is down to Beckham alone. When featuring as a guest on the BBC’s world football radio show, Wheelock argued that the growth of the league was inevitable, with or without Beckham:

"The league has grown exponentially but it would have grown anyway. People mocked him for moving over there $250 million contract with his own football club

It might be many things but it’s definitely not football.

It’s never been about football as I said he didn’t even bother to attend an England qualifier.
 
Are Saudi doing to help their World Cup bid?
I know he has a big fan base but surely they won’t bother watching score against a load of poor players. Apart from his bank balance I don’t see what anyone gains from this.
