Weren't some of Pele's 1000 goals counted from friendlies and exhibition matches?!
This record of Ronaldo's is genuine and its incredible, he's transformed himself from one of the best wide attacking players in the world to one of the best number 9's in the world the guy is an absolute machine and he isn't finished yet.
As for the Messi comparison I would always go with the little Argentine. I've watched lots of both of them on the telly and been lucky enough to watch them both in the flesh a good few times.
One of Messi's performances i watched were absolutely incredible, he literally ran the game and was on a completely different level to anyone else on the pitch. People in the stands at the Nou Camp were literally laughing at one point because it was just a joke how good he was.
Ronaldo might be the better goalscorer and will likely finish his career with a better record than Messi but for pure talent there's no comparison. He's probably the best playmaker to ever play the game (apart from maybe a couple of seasons of Maradona's peak) and he's also going toe to toe with one of the best goalscorers of all time in the process.
I've watched some great players in the flesh, Ronaldo, Zidane, Ronaldinho, Figo, Xavi, Iniesta and all the great English and Premier league players of the last 30 years and no one came close to Messi, not even close. He was just playing on a different level.
