Ronaldo has scored 787 goals, amazing

Yeah, another professional who has taken care of himself and is reaping the rewards.

Scored within 10 mins of getting subbed on last night for Milan.

Agree that Ronaldo is in better shape and if Ibra can be doing what he's doing at 39/40, then I think there's no reason why Ronaldo can't.
Could he beat George Millar's record of playing in a world cup at 42, even though you're talking another 6 years than if anyone could, he could

If he wants to, only injuries would prevent it I reckon. Even if he can't last 90 mins at that point you'd have him on the bench and Portugal aren't usually known for having an abundance of striking talent.

Mind, given some of the dubious record keeping in certain African countries at the time, Milla was probably 50.

I would say far better than Messi but it's all about opinions
I really dont see it, could argue it to death how they influence their sides but looking at the stats alone Messi has more goals in less games despite playing for a fairly poor Barce side for the last 5 years, plus significantly more assists despite playing much deeper than Ronaldo does, all this despite Ronaldo being the goalscorer

I'm not sure that's right about more goals.

Messi: 474 for Barcelona, 0 for PSG, 79 for Argentina.

Ronaldo: 3 for Sporting Lisbon, 84 for Man Utd the first time round, 311 for Real Madrid, 81 for Juve, and now another 2 for Man Utd. So 481 total for clubs. + 111 for Portugal.

I only looked at club goals, to be fair some of the teams they play at international level are semi pro anyway so it probably isnt the best comparison

Messi has 751 career goals in 932 games.

Ronaldo has 787 career goals in 1076 games.

The international goals are where the sizeable swing in favour of Ronaldo is, 111 to 79, but South Americans don't have the luxury of playing teams like Luxembourg and Andorra regularly.

At club level, Messi has 672 goals in 779 games, Ronaldo has 676 goals in 896 games.

Ronaldo has more goals, but with many more games.

Either way.
He's an incredible player, one I cannot stand and find very arrogant, but I won't pretend I'm not excited to watch him in the Premier League this season.

To still be scoring so many at 36 is very impressive, even if he's far less involved in games than he was in the past.

This just reiterates why I think Messi is the greatest of all time.

He's a playmaker and a goal scorer at the same time.

He's the bookies clear favourite to go on and win yet another Ballon D'or after what he did for Argentina this summer.

Impressive stats by both. Ridiculous stats. But the magic a player brings to a game and those little moments, things like vision, creativity and those moments that excite are how I judge them.

Some of those you can't measure

He should win it too, but there's plenty of chatter about Jorginho winning it.

Which is ridiculous as he wasn't even the best player in the Chelsea or Italy teams, he'd be winning it because he was in winning sides rather than he made a side win.

It's great to see Ronaldo back at Manchester United. And I imagine those who are very big on nostalgia and take a sentimental view on things will be overjoyed.

I can actually buy into a bit of that, as I prefer watching Ronaldo now in his latter days. Although for me, at least in terms of footballing talent wise - he's not even in the argument with regards to the best player ever. Athleticism is a massive part of his game, as well as consistency, but he doesn't have the pure skill or on field intelligence when compared to some of the greats. Take his dribbling for example, it's often very crude. He obviously has good technique, but it simply can't compare to the greats. But he is an extremely consistent athlete, probably more so than the greats. But it is not that, that generally makes one great.

Messi is definitely up there with the greats. Like Ronaldo, he shows consistency that isn't really seen. Although he doesn't have the athleticism of Ronaldo, he can do most other things better. Some a lot better. Which is why he has a similar scoring record to Ronaldo, but a far superior record with regards to assisting his teammates.

Is Messi as good as Maradona was? Probably not. Although of course he's been more consistent throughout his career. It's doubtful that Messi could have done what Maradona did with Napoli or perhaps even Argentina. At their very best, Maradona was just a bit better. But we should be aware that Messi's career is still not finished.
