Anyone been? Thinking about taking my girlfriend for valentines day (Covid depending) - Unsure on how to go about booking it.. Lad I work with recommends booking flights and hotel separately on booking.com but I feel like with the covid situation my best bet would be to book with a holiday company where I can atleast get some money back if it was to be cancelled.

Any recommendations on where to stay?

I use teletext holidays a lot, always get a good deal, but be aware the first price you see doesn’t include baggage or transfers they will be extra.

I went for a couple of days whilst based out in Naples. I'm definitely not a tourist guide but we found plenty to do.

I visited the Vatican and a famous water feature thingy (see what I mean😂). The food is amazing and smashed in my own body weight in pasta and ice cream.

That said I never got into the Colosium. The first day we arrived mid afternoon and the que was massive and we were told we wouldn't get in on time. Then the second day arrived in the morning and the que was horrific. So looked at it from the outside😂

I imagine this could work to your advantage in the current climate. I doubt everywhere will he busy.

We booked a specific time slot for the Colosseum with a tour guide. No queues and good info. Price included a tour of the Forum also.

I've always fancied going back and would love to go for a 6 Nations game.

A beautiful city but I was on hedge the whole time I was there. I had gone with my me and my eldest and was worried anything would happen to him. The 2 days after the game was a little more relaxed, but the last morning I was pulled into a shop by shopkeeper who pointed out I was being followed and set up to be mugged.

Edit: The two lads who owned our hotel supported Lazio and we got free drinks after the win.

we had 5 days there a few years ago (2014?) and we're itching to go back, we saw most of the main stuff but would do so again. We stayed in an area called Monte, close to the Forum. If you keep off the main tourist areas to eat, we found it very reasonable, Piazza Novona for example is very expensive so we only had a couple of drinks there walking back from the Vatican, really just to say we'd been and spend an hour or so watching the street art/theatre there

Its very much a walking city so wear comfy shoes. Mrs fufkin wore sandals the first day which ended up in her bag as we had to buy her some trainers! Food is brilliant, we never had a poor meal and you can easily have a meal and drink each for less than €30, if as I say you get off the beaten track a bit. Monte was great for this as the restaurants were full of locals, we didn't bump into many tourists eating in this area. Lunch was usually a salad as it was so hot, then pizza or pasta for an evening meal

We booked the Vatican in advance for a guided tour, the rest we just turned up for and queues were OK, this was in September. Buy a little guide book with a map to help navigate as it can be a little confusing working out where everything is in relation to each other, we got the rough guide pocket book which was great

When it come to art, don't just go to the main churches, go in every one you stumble upon, even these are full of amazing prices. Make sure the Mrs takes a shawl or wrap of some sort as its very much frowned upon for women to enter with bear arms

Keep your wits about you, like anywhere and you'll be fine, don't have bags or phones on show as they whizz past on scooters and whip stuff out of your hand. I have a cross body bag which might make me look a tīt, but I didn't lose any belongings, and be careful in the Pantheon because while you're looking up, someone is going through your bag or pockets, its free to get in so is the worst place for pick pockets

Thanks for the replies, I've booked a hotel called Giolli Nazionale which is between the train station and the trevi fountain.. Got free cancellation til 2 days before i want to fly which is good.

3 things I would definitely recommend.

Going up aventine hill and looking through the keyhole.
Doing the secret tour in Castle St Angel.
Eating in Trastevere.

agree with walking city, apart from all the above... fancied a haircut so popped into a small barber on the corner of a quiet street... saw loads pics of Julia Roberts on the walls and looking more closely it was a film set in his barbers, Asked about it and said he was in the movie cutting hair whilst Roberts talked behind him, seemed put out i didnt know and said i just stumbled in rather than seek him out... --- tried to charge me 20 euros for the cut, I say tried.....
