Rock n' roll hellraiser biographies

Dave Lee Roth’s was interesting enough, main take out was searching for the Sopranos episode he appeared in.

Read a load of others already mentioned and my conclusion is these guys would be ok to visit but not to stay. Just get the feeling a lot of them would be tiresome drunk bores see actors like Olly Reed as well.

Who is Keef? FFS kids of today!

Don’t need to read the book. You can tell the life he had just by reading his face!

I haven't read it, but Mark Lanegan's book is well rated. Less hell-raising, more a deep dive into addiction and all of the problems it brings.

Not particularly hell raising but currently working my way through Johnny Marr’s ‘set the boy free’. As a Man City fan, he describes his first ever away match, it was Ayresome Park.

Again, not exactly a hellraiser but Bruce Springsteen's autobiography is a good read. See also Elvis Costello.
Bruce’s is a super read, but one where Hell is definitely not raised! Far from it - a generally well-behaved rock star. Not sure the ‘Bruce’ biography dug up that much dirt. And Clarence’s is admittedly half made up. Little Steven’s May be decent.

Elton John’s (is he rock enough for this thread?! 🙂) is an interesting read.

Thanks for the tip, half way through now :)

I always had a curiosity about Ginger Baker cos of the amount of stuff he got up to ie Graham Bond, Cream, Fela Kuti etc now it's all falling into place
yep. Me too!

His Jazz drumming and as you say, his time with Fela Kuti and his interest in the African Rhythms - as well as Rock, make him the best (IMO)

David Crosby has had a colourful career with Drugs and Rock n Roll and arrested for having firearms and offensive weapons.
In his time.....he was a wild mother....

A bit more obscure but the Peter Grant (led zep manager) “bring it on home” is a brilliant read! Scary the way he ran things

These Luke Haines books are a great read. Especially the first.

Bad Vibes: Britpop and My Part in Its Downfall, 2009 (Published by William Heinemann Ltd)

Post Everything: Outsider Rock and Roll, 2011 (Published by William Heinemann Ltd)

Also really enjoyed Kim Gordon's
memoir, Girl in a Band, by HarperCollins imprint Dey Street Books.

Another vote for Motley Crue's The Dirt if you want scandal. I also recommend Mark E Everett's autobiography for a different kind of good read.
