The RNLI has confirmed an incident took place following claims Hastings RNLI lifeboat crew were blocked from going out to sea by people angry at them for rescuing refugees in the Channel.

They should be prosecuted under Hate crime legislation. A friend of mine posted on Facebook about "Illegal Immigrants". Some of the names liking his post were McBride, O'Riordan, Lavery, Flanagan and Donnelly. I think the irony is probably lost on them.

Most (not all) choose the charity method of funding to remain free of government bureaucracy and possible political interference.

The RNLI are a prime example of that, especially as the rescue of migrants is very political. Being free from that allows them to continue the amazing work they do with fear of falling foul of the government, especially this one.
 
If the RNLI were Government funded, they would have seen such funding cut by up to 40% over the last 11 years, resulting in fewer Lifeboats, fewer Lifeboat Stations and fewer crew. Unless of course they had a VIP lane to Government Covid contracts, or were House decorators or Holiday Villa suppliers or Takeaway food delivery services or...... I'm sure you get my drift. No pun intended.

Absolutely disgusting and vile behaviour to stop the RNLI performing their duties

In addition thankfully they are independent from Government interference as I would not like to imagine the policies that they would need to adhere to under this abhorrent Government

Hopefully the vile individuals will be charged under the Emergency Workers (Obstruction) Act 2006

That wasn’t my intention, I’ve seen the image before. It’s a highly emotive photo, but in the context I believe it should have remained as it emphasises how despicable the actions of these beings who tried to block the RNLI are. Children perished in the channel only last week.

You can add mountain rescue to the list. In terms of impeding the emergency services these people need identifying and need to be issued with a caution at least. A couple of years back a neighbour stopped a mountain rescue ambulance on the bridleway that passes the house to complain about the dust it was kicking up. :rolleyes: It was on the way to a heart attack case. Once the patient was packaged up and on the way to hospital the police stopped off to have a 'little word'. 👮‍♂️

Most GB residents of Irish ancestry are probably descendants of internal migrants, who moved here when Ireland was part of the UK. This is not meant as a criticism of your underlying point - they should know better.
 
Lived and worked in Hastings, quite an odd place. An end of the line town with little Further Education, so all the bright kids leave, and don't get replaced! When I saw this story I could visualise members of staff who used to work for me having no problem with it all, if not joining in!
 
The news from today is disgusting and reflects badly on anyone who thinks desperate people should not be allowed to build a life in Britain.

Bear this in mind. The vast majority of people arriving in boats are from:

Iran
Iraq
Syria
Sudan

All countries that have either been torn apart by war, or are effectively a totalitarian regime.
