RIP the Duke of Edinburgh

Sorry, I don't like racists, and I don't like it being whitewashed as 'just a gaff'. I grew up in an oppressed part of the country, with little chance for most to get out,
Assuming you live in the UK, do you really think anyone is living in oppression?

There are plenty of depressed areas in the UK, but not oppressed.

Keyboard courage in full affect on this thread

RIP to the Duke, condolences to the Queen and the rest of the family and I`ll also extend that sentiment to the other families that have also lost a loved one

I wonder if she will be at the funeral?
I love this uber-deference, it's the one thing our nation is still truly great at. I respect his service and a family have lost their head, which is always terribly sad, no matter the grand old age of the deceased.

But my heart is more with the passing and every wasted life of ex-soldiers who died in shop doorways, having served the crown and been rewarded with lifelong mental health problems, with little help from either country or regiment.

It's with the poor and voiceless who subsist on old age pensions, and the disabled who found themselves targeted as state scroungers while the royal family live in unimaginable riches.

I'm not even a republican - not really - but the mawkishness and false public grief of these occasions is just too much for me.

And I'm sorry but if the man had come on this board spouting any of the many racist comments for which he was infamous, he'd have been banned in 5 minutes flat.

Bring on the brickbats. Too soon for some, I know.
Top post HV!

Sorry, I don't like racists, and I don't like it being whitewashed as 'just a gaff'. I grew up in an oppressed part of the country, with little chance for most to get out, I was a product of my upbringing. Seeing inherent wealth and power for a handful of people while people around me lived on hand outs, grips my ****.

You might think that's fine. You might think paying the equivalent of conservatively 2billion in my life to a single family while others go through a life with no opportunity is something to cherish and cheer, I don't. You might think repeated casual racism is just a gaff. You might think that allowing a family unfettered and unaccountable access to change our laws is democratic, I don't. The only difference between what they do and mafioso is that they were able to exclude their activity from being unlawful.

So am I bitter, too bloody right. You wonder what has happened in my life to make me bitter, I wonder how much of your life you have lived with your eyes closed misunderstanding all you see.
I started to reply to this post and then decided against it. Your hatred for the royal family is ingrained in you and any reply won't change that. You mention that you don't like racists or it being whitewashed over, I think you need to read your posts again to see how you are coming over all 'ism.'

Well he certainly divides opinion. He was almost cerrtainly a racist who got away with a lot because of his likeable personality, racism aside.

He made me laugh a few times, a guilty kind of laugh, knowing I shouldn't find him funny.

It's a tragedy for his family, I am not sure it's such a loss for the country though.

do you think we are living in complete freedom, a true democracy, because if you do, I've got news for you

diversion mate.

I'll give you the same challenge I have given many on this board and the previous one. I've yet to have anyone give a straight answer that justifies monarchy.

Challenge:
Please explain why falling out of a particular vagina, or marrying a particular vagina, should give a person a lifetime supply of public money, to the tune of 20billion in my life, unfettered and unaccountable access to MPs, the PM, and senior civil servants. No accountability for any actions taken, protection from legal issues, up to and including sex offences, freedom to perform corrupt activities and when caught red handed, freedom to change the laws to ensure you are not caught again, free castles, the ability to shut down public services like railways for your own private use, and access to public media to build your stock. Let me just recap, the only criteria for access to this is which vagina you fell out of, or which vagina you married, please justify why...I expect you will flounce and not give a straight response, that's what I've always encountered to this challenge (NOTE: you will be asked to back any claims with quantified and qualified evidence, so don't just say 'props up tourist industry' which has never been proven).

If there's such a thing as a true democracy, then yes.

And, in answer to the second point, it's just the way it is, and it's the way that most people want it to be. You may not like it, nor agree, but you need to understand your views are minority views and converting people to your view of things is, frankly, not going to happen.

Then you are blind mate. It recently came out that the queen has had access to thousands of laws, and had the ability to lobby them for change BEFORE even MPs see them, and HAS done just that to protect her own interests over a thousand times. Just to recap an unelected person has the ability to influence and change laws purely based on whose vagina she fell out of at birth. She has this right without accountability, she has this right for life, this right cannot be removed, or even challenged.

Even MPs cannot challenge it within the confines of the house of commons, because, they don't have the right to say anything expressly against the monarch and her powers.

This monarch is enforced on us, against some of our will, by a constitutional system, that isn't democracy.

This monarch has influence over the membership of the House of Lords, bestowing hereditary membership to families that have her back, to further pervert law making that influences you and I, outside of a democratic system.

We are not free, far from it, in spite of the veneer that we see, dig under the surface and the same aristocratic systems are in place. It's why we continue to be ruled by old etonians, why top civil service positions are handed out to the same families, why we continue to have our money diverted from the many to the few....and don't get me started on FPTP.

And, in answer to the second point, it's just the way it is
That is possibly the weakest argument I have ever heard. Once upon a time trepaning was the answer to mental illness, why did we continue it for hundreds of years, "well, that's just the way it is". You have no answer for the challenge, you can't justify it, that is clear.

they are growing, and one day it WILL happen maybe not in my lifetime but hey, it will. One day enough people will have their matrix moment

I really think we need to reserve the 'Main Forum' for BORO ONLY threads. Having to put up with these type of comments is really not what a Footy board is there for. I opened this innocently expecting a respects thread and am appalled by some of these comments.

Rob: any chance we can get things grouped liked on other boards please to avoid be subjected to this type of bile?

mate, this has never ever been a football only board.

If you don't like my comments, then fair enough, but if your expectation is that everyone feels the same as you, then maybe a public messageboard isn't the right place for you?

I know, many people will be appalled by my views, good for you, but appreciate it's because I want a better country for all and monarchy has never delivered that, it's the antithesis of every monarchy in history.
