RIP Terry Cooper

Best left back I've seen in a Boro shirt and always gets in my 'best ever XI'. Great defender and great attacking full back as well. Linked up brilliantly with Spike. RIP.

First player I recognised as a toddler, my old fella gave me his 1970 figure he got free from ESSO....imagine my delight when I went to my first Boro game and saw Terry in the Boro line up.....RIP Terry.

Sad news.
Absolute class footballer, we were so lucky in that era to have two full backs who were so much more than defenders.
RIP Terry.

A wonderful player and a great humble man. As many of you will know, he owned a convenience store in Billingham after he retired and was always incredibly polite and courteous whenever he served you. No pretensions whatsoever. Sign of a great man. Time is passing. RIP.

Do you remember the Boro’s Best book from 1997? He was 30th in the players’ choice top 50 and 50th in the fans’ choice. Somehow thought he might have been higher in the fans list?

RIP TC and thank you for your 3 years at the Boro.

Most of that Don Revie early 70s Leeds team seemed to have passed away in recent years.

The World’s first original wingback. Fullbacks were cloggers in those days who defended. Cooper changed the position. He was more like a winger with his mesmerising runs. RIP.
I agree, but strangely with the exception of our very own John Craggs on the right. JC was very attack minded and frequently gave the Ayresome crowd heart failure with his penchant for dribbling out of defence. Terry Cooper was one of our great players of that era and as a kid I was astonished that an England international and First division star would come to us, even in the twilight of his career.

Been away from the board as may know but wanted to log on to add my condolences to the thread about the great Sir Terry. What a player he was. A wing back before wing backs were even invented.

Good night Sir and sleep well...

Hello Erimus. Of course, my friend, all forgotten. We're all passionate fans and sometimes a little TOO passionate... ha! Hope all's well.

Just read the piece in the Grauniad : "After leaving Leeds, he went on to manage Bristol Rovers, Bristol City, Exeter (twice) and Birmingham. " :( .... and in the obituary : "Although he had another decade as a player with Middlesbrough and then Bristol City, his days at the very highest level were over"
