He was the 1st big Boro signing I can remember. Couldn't believe the Gazette billboards with his name on. Top player in his day

Remarkable when you read that he didn't come up through the normal schoolboy football route. He just turned up at Elland Road one morning with his boots and asked for a trial. He passed and that was that!

Very sad news. Was at Stamford Bridge when he got sent off but we still won the game. After the match he came back on to congratulate the players and shake his fist in defiance.
