RIP Terry Cooper

My local convenience shop in Wolviston Court Billingham was once owned by TC.
We'd often pop round to 'Terry Cooper's' for our bread and milk :)
Not sure what the deal was there - I don't think Terry used to be behind the counter but perhaps any other readers could shed light on this?

Another random retail story is that Graham Hedley is the Postmaster at the Post Office in Wolviston.

While I'm on a roll....Alec Smith had a sports shop in Billingham too (opposite Swan pub)

I remember going to GH Post Office in Wolviston to get my 1981 Sunderland match, he scored that cracking free kick, a press photo & a centenary shirt all signed

It was his sister or sister in law I can't remember, they had two shops. I did the books.

Apparently TC did work in the shop according to reports on Facebook.
Also mentioned was the fact that his parents had a house on Whitehouse Road Billingham.
Terry must have bought it for them and moved them up? I'd imagine he'd have grown up in Leeds area?

Sorry I didn't do Facebook but two families moved up, one to Billingham and the other to Eston. Terry did indeed work in both shops.

He was a joy to know.

Despite the mega salaries on offer to footballers today I wonder if they are the happier for it?
Players seemed to retire with a few bob in their pocket - enough to open a shop or pub.
Their fame would give them an instant 'brand' and ex-players seemed a bit closer to joe public.
