He started his career as the youngest Boro debutant at home to Kevin Keegan Southampton in a 1-0 home defeat on the 30th January 1982, wearing the No10 shirt
Stephen Bell played 94 games, 7 as sub, scoring 14 goals

A sad end to his career when his contract was cancelled in 1985 & signed for Portsmouth

Lovely little footballer, legs like 2 threads of cotton but he could play a bit, I think he would have got in today side no problem.

Have sigh a little bit, remembering a slightly built blond kid trying his heart out to play football with skill, tried to bully him but he kept going. I will remember him as a decent little player who possessed skill.

Great talent. Remember him running rings around the Geordies at St James’ one time. Unfortunately his family life was tough and he got in with a bad crowd. Serious drink problem. There was a shoplifting issue and he was arrested for kicking a football against his neighbour’s garage door. Taken too young . RIP.

Watched that Newcastle game stood in the Gallowgate with my late Dad and girlfriend. We hadn't thought to keep quiet if we scored, thought we were going to get lynched when we scored after a few minutes.

That was quite a team Newcastle had for that division.
