RIP Gianluca Vialli

Quality player. Remember watching him on Football Italia then even into his 30s he was still excellent for Chelsea.

Seemed a good bloke, stayed living in London after his Chelsea/Watford career.

Gianluca Vialli's left me with some great footballing memories and also some footballing heartache, today it is about remembering him fondly as a person and thanking him for everything he offered the game.

It was always good to see him on the TV as a pundit in the studio, you knew he would talk sense. A great man, a great footballer and a tragic loss to the world.

So sadly taken before his time.

Thank you for everything you offered society and RIP

Sadly, he has passed away aged only 58.

Great striker, very good manager and above all came across as respectful and a very decent guy.
f(*k, that's awful, really sad loss. Seemed a great guy as well as a fantastic player RIP

I’m actually gutted about this. Formed a big part of my childhood watching him play. Although Chelsea tormented us 2 seasons in a row in cup finals, I always liked Vialli. R.I.P

Robson went on a trip to watch Vialli and approach Juventus. Rav came on as sub.

After the game, Robson told the Juve execs he’d like to sign Vialli and they apologised and said he will be going to Chelsea, a deal had already been agreed. Robson said, how about Ravanelli?

From journalist Matt Lorenzo

'Vialli and Zola, two gentlemen of the game, decided to show their gratitude to Gary Staker, the Chelsea liaison officer who is half Italian. They took him for a meal at an expensive restaurant but asked him to give them a lift, asking a waiter to park his car.

After the meal, Staker was upset because to find his Ford was nowhere to be seen. Until he realised the brand new BMW parked outside was his, a gift from Vialli and his friend.'

Very saddening, just a tremendous player.

Just been looking through the tributes and saw one from David Moyes saying that as a young boy he used to watch Vialli play. Moyes is 59 and Vialli was 58, am I missing something here?

A brilliant player and thoroughly decent person by all accounts. He was part of the excellent Sampdoria team of the early 90’s. That team and kit was one of my favourites from those days.
