Of Apollo 8 and Apollo 16.

Not many of them left now. Jim Lovell is 95, Buzz is 93, David Scott 91, and Charlie Duke and Harrison Schmitt are 88.

Tempus Fugit. I just don't think of them being old men.

I can recommend this book if anyone interested in the Apollo astronauts has not yet read it:

Thanks for that, my son visited the Space Museum when he was in Washington and took these pictures of Armstrong's space suit, Michael Collins' watch and Apollo 11.

I have just ordered him that book as a stocking filler.

5 of the 9 chosen from the original group of Apollo Astronauts still left with us.
The Mercury 7 were chosen on this criteria so I expect the Apollo Astronauts were too.
They seemed to have lived to a grand age too, this was not expected or it used to come across that way.
Taken from Wiki.
  1. Less than 40 years old;
  2. Less than 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m) tall;
  3. In excellent physical condition;
  4. With a bachelor's degree or equivalent;
  5. A graduate of test pilot school;
  6. With a minimum of 1,500 hours total flying time; and
  7. A qualified jet pilot.
Brave men IMHO, two sets of pioneering astronauts Mercury and Apollo, brave just as todays astronauts are.

I was amazed as a youngster at the Apollo missions and I watched the landings on TV.
Over the years I have tried to keep up with whatever I could regarding the NASA space programme, and all its remote missions around the solar system.
Its great today with the internet, I can read a lot from the PC regarding the space programme, I got a keen interest whilst visiting KSC about the Mercury missions, and the Gemini project too. cant get enough of it tbh.

The early space program still fascinates me . I`ve visited Kennedy Space Centre and to many people it would bore them to death , to me its the best place I have ever visited or ever will.
The museum, its historic exhibits and experience's are fantastic, and what I've seen has stayed with me since.
I was hoping to go back in August 2024 - DTBA as there is a launch of a Falcon 9 (we normally visit Florida in November April or May, but this time we are going to Florida for 3 weeks in July, so I will miss that launch .

The pictures are fantastic Norman, I hope I might get to the Washington Museums one day. I will check that book out today Goalscrounger -thanks.

My son and his partner went on a holiday of a lifetime spending time in NY, Washington, San Francisco, two weeks in a top luxury hotel in Costa Rica and a week in Disney with days spent at the space centre, etc.

He came home and just enthused about the space museum and space centre.

I've bought him the above mentioned book for Christmas.
