The purple thistle,
proudest symbol
of the man's homeland,
another force of nature,
is described as having
no natural enemies
but it cannot fill a room
with a mighty presence,
cannot hold back a storm,
cannot reduce grown men
to awestruck children,
and it cannot leave a hole
big as the moon
at the end of its season.
