Went through times last season I was convinced we must sell him as his injuries were doing my head in.

But then I just think to myself if he can actually stay fit he's one of the very best 'footballers' in the division. I hope Edwards finds a role for him to get the best out him. Not sure Carrick ever truly did, I used to like how Wilder utilised him in that midfield 3 at times.

Overall im glad he is still here now and hope he's put his tough times behind him and can kick on under the new manager. Fancy him to go on and have a great season.

The Aussie Boro fan on socials said he's been in regular contact with McGree this week too and sounds like it's the happiest McGree has been for a long time. Not sure if that's because he's feeling fitter and raring to go again or because it's a new manager or both but it's good to hear and hopefully it brings us the best version of McGree.

If he can stay fit he's a lovely footballer. I always think he makes the overall team play much better when he's in the first XI, as he's intelligent with his passing and movement and keeps the ball moving quickly as well.

He's just a good team player who helps others around him play well too, which is particularly welcome as we have a few too many individuals on the books at the moment for my liking.

Availability is the best ability
He's got 3 years left on his deal, so for me this is the year he needs to get fit, stay fit and produce the goods. If not then we sell next summer with 2 years left on his deal and we should get a decent enough fee.

I don't think there is any point selling him this summer. Let's use him and try get the best out of him. There is no questioning the ability, it is the availability that is the problem.

Hopefully the new staff have some better luck in this regard.

His football brain is his biggest asset for me. Such an intelligent foootballer. I Actually think he's better than he thinks he is. He's got so much more to give this club.

But if he has yet another poor season with injuries, having 2 years left means nothing as he’ll likely attract few bids.

I think his injury record is one of the reasons we look like signing Barry.

I like McGree but he’s had far too many chances already to show if he is the man we can hang our hat on and he’s not helped us in that.

If he could avoid the constant injuries, he'd be one of the first names on the team sheet from our current squad.

We'd probably have lost him to a top flight club this summer if he'd carried on like he had when Carrick first came in before his body kept breaking down.

Big fan of his and always defending him.

His fitness in the last 2 years has been a big issue, but his quality is right up there.

There are plenty of players who've just had an unlucky spell of of injuries before going on to be reliable regulars again, so hopefully he's one of them.

We can't sell everyone. We're already looking a bit thin on the ground in regards to actual quality footballers and McGree clearly is one. He got fit towards back end of last season and stayed fit and featured for Australia, he's back for pre season and will play and if he gets through that then he's bang upto speed. I see no harm in giving him another shot. No one is gonna buy him now anyway, I think he wants to be here.

Genuinely think he's in for a very good season. Whether I'm right or wrong remains to be seen

Hasn't he got a pretty much incurable issue that will always keep flaring up and causing him to miss games, plantar fasciitis I think?

One of our best players when fit.

Most of his absences last season were injuries seemingly unrelated to plantar fasciitis from what Carrick said across the season, though he was a very unreliable person for injury updates.

This is what McGree had to say a month ago:

"We were literally trying to do absolutely everything to figure out what was going on," said McGree. "From looking at the hamstring, to looking at my back, to looking at my diet, just literally everything. So we were just trying to dot the I's and cross the T's.

"We kind of have some kind of understanding of maybe where it's come from. There's maybe a few different combinations of things, but we're in a position now where I feel strong, I feel healthy, and I'm building a good base."

His answers would imply that it was down to plantar fasciitis, because they're all things that are apparently connected to flare ups.

It's often the case that when you get one injury and start to recover from it, the body seems to compensate in other areas which causes other niggles to develop so it can becomes a vicious circle.

I haven't really analysed his various list of injuries, but it seems like his plantar fasciitis has been the main one that's kept him out for the longest periods of time. He's been really unlucky, top player when fit. Hope we can find a role for him as I do think he makes other players better.

I’m hoping the change in staff has some sort of affect on the number of injuries we picked up during Carrick’s era. Let’s see if we can get through preseason without any major ones.
That would be nice! A fit McGree, Bangura and Lenihan for this season is like 3 new signings! Cliche, but true!

Quite concerning looking back at this injury record though 😬
He deserves some good fortune this year as he must be pig sick.
