Riley is back and raring to go

Should have been given a fortnight off after the Argies game. Back in training on the 19th Dec and raring to go for the Boxing Day / 29th / 2nd trio of games

Thing is with taking a week off, that's the norm for a summer world cup because it impacts your off season but at this stage you would expect to be playing 2 games a week in the league so it's arguable its the other players that have been disadvantaged by missing competitive football for 4 weeks while McGree has been kept in tip top condition and he should be the fittest man on the pitch v Luton.

I worry about the referees. They are the oldest people on the pitch. Never before , here in UK , have they been given a month off mid season. I expect them to be dropping like flies in the second half on Saturday, all over the league grounds. Then there will have to be an EFL enquiry and a root and branch investigation into why so many put on more than a few pounds . It's all coming down the line, I can see it

Correct me if I am wrong, but he was usually subbed after about an hour. Should not be too tired, and therefore should be straight back into the team.

He's played 4 international games in a 28 day gap in League football. I don't think any of them were full games. Sometimes he has to play 7 full games in a month in the UK, OK not quite to the same standard but not miles off.

It wasn't for fitness reasons that I expected him to have time off, it was psychological.

Takehiro Tomiyasu sounded absolutely devastated after Japan lost, and outright said he needed some time off from football for a bit.

I'm guessing McGree has taken being knocked out better.

Yes I’d imagine getting as far as they did only to lose to the best player on the planet is prob beyond their expectations.

They must all be proud.

When Riley last played in UK , it was 14 degrees generally in the day, a mild late autumn
When Riley spent 3 or weeks in Qatar it was not lower than 27 and he was looked after well by international setup, probably didn't have to lift a finger , plus got to catch up with 25 Oz mates and reconnect with the native dingo lingo
The Riley of tomorrow has to train at Rockliffe in minus degrees with a nice wind from the North West chillin his bones
then he has to go home shop in Tesco Express and cook everything in his air fryer and watch the thermostat and complain to his Energy supplier their assessment of his monthly bills is too high.
This is only his third winter in UK , I can honestly see him downing tools , putting in a transfer request to a team playing in Qatar league and forgetting about the 99 best ways to heat your home without using heat 😄

Oz were meant to be knocked out at the Group Stage, the current side made history. I bet he is bouncing inside.

So were Japan, Tomiyasu clearly is not bouncing.

I'm glad McGree is though, they were very close to snatching a 90 minute draw against Argentina.
