For what it is worth I love Pep, but I have no idea what he was playing at tonight. Totally over thought it.

It's becoming harder and harder to tout him as the best manager in the world when he's spent over a billion and can't win the Champion's League without Messi.

It's hard to argue with his record in the domestic leagues but there is definitely something up when he meets a team set up by someone with a bit of tactical nous.

I imagine he will throw money at as linked with Grealish and Kane.

To be fair they need a CF (arguably 2). It's quiet a scary thought for the rest of the prem if they sign a player like Kane or Haaland. It's probably the only thing they are missing.
 
He did screw it up last night pretty badly, but some of his players were incredibly off it too. Playing Sterling was ridiculous.
But they will start as strong favourites to win the league and favourites for the Champions League. If they sign two players - and they will - they will take some stopping again.
 
Just goes to show that a well drilled defence will always have a chance against a flair team, particularly if the flair players are having an off night.
 
So impressed by Tuchel. I quietly fancied Chelsea and even from kickoff it looked like they were playing with less pressure, being the underdogs and not expecting to be there.

The wrong team selection, weird setup, creative players being blunt, losing de Bruyne and all that didn't help. But also think Tuchel might just have his number, can't argue with three in a row.

Chelsea defended brilliantly.

What also struck me, hell of a lot of young English players on that pitch. What an experience for Mount, Foden, Reece James and Chilwell. Plus Sterling, Stones and Kyle Walker. James was absolutely brilliant, Walker was very good too.

I spoke to him yesterday. Works for the some company as me but have not seen him in years as we work for different parts of the business.

In his words he criticised Starmer and Paul Williams for an awful campaign in Hartlepool and for campaigning with Peter Mandleson. Next thing he's getting called all sorts and accused of being paid by Tory donors. Checks the forum later that day and his account has been disabled. No explanation given. @rob_fmttm refuses to respond to his emails.

Poor form considering he's used this forum for around 15 years.

If that's accurate then its worrying, especially if no explanation has been given.

The lad is a decent member and whilst I don't always agree with his views, he isn't someone who strikes me as an unreasonable fellas.

Some clarity from admin would be appreciated?

The city fans I speak to obviously want to win the PL & CL more than anything else...but that certainly doesn't mean they 'don't care' about other trophies.

They were over the moon with the League Cup win the other week.

Would they swap it for a CL trophy? In a heartbeat.

Does it mean they don't care about the League Cup? Certainly not.

I'm still to be fully convinced by Pep as a manager as everywhere he has managed he has been handed success on a plate virtually.

I'd like him to take over a team like Spurs who don't have the spending power of Man City and Chelsea etc... to see if he can turn them into Premier League winners, then i will have a different view of him.

I think he's good, but it would be interesting to see how he could transform a mid table type of club. Not going to happen though.
 
Elite managers are elite managers for a reason, they get the best out for the worlds best players. The shoe has to fit. Who would have done a better job than Pep at Man City

As has been pointed out in this thread, his first job was Barcelona b, that wasn’t a team that was winning week in week out. He transformed them
