Repeat after me ‘bald, fraud’

Steady!! City fans with a bit about them or few years behind them have witnessed the best football ever seen at City!! They’re still in dreamland.
That was true even back when Mancini was there and they lost to Wigan in the cup final.

Of course City fans love Pep and love what they’ve seen so far but deep down every single football fan (and especially City fans) knows that Pep was brought in to win the CL and it is that on which he’ll ultimately be judged. He’s very close now but he’s not there yet.

I believe it is still the case today. They’ve previously won the league by the highest points total and most goals scored.

To say you can say by first hand that winning the league and winning the league cup is of no interest to City fans? H’way! That’s everything wrong with football today.

Previous managers already raised the bar of expectation at City, the two domestic cups will not define any manager’s achievements there.

Pep’s record at Barca also raised the bar of expectation on him. At BM he didn’t settle any debates about his credentials as one of the best ever. He was expected to win the CL there and he is expected to win it at City before he leaves.

I have just read back my posts in August and I said winning the PL and CL this season would be a fantastic season for him; maybe even just getting to a final (even Pellegrini got them to a semi). If he manages to win it then of course he has finally started to settle the debates about his seat at the table as one of the greatest of all time, but the fact is he’s not delivered in Europe since leaving Barca, until (possibly) now. That’s just the truth. Nowadays most managers of top/rich European clubs will be judged by their achievements in the CL.

Not bothered about what you wrote in August, my point is “He will obviously add another PL title but the plethora of League Cups I can tell you first hand is of no interest to City fans.”
Is just wrong.

I’d guess, you have a soft spot for United and a dislike for City.

No idea what United have to do with this, I couldn’t care less about them.

It’s true that I find City one of the least endearing “clubs” in world football but I’ve sat in pubs with their fans in Manchester (several times) when they’ve won domestic cups, they treat it like little more than a charity shield now. They certainly wouldn’t be crowing about Pep had they only won FA and League Cups under him.

This season was always a massive season for him, especially in Europe, and it looks like he might just have found the winning formula. Still one game to go though.

This is the point I can’t agree with you. You set a goal to win the champions league, but you can’t expect to win it. Europe’s elite are capable of beating each other on any given day.

Yes and you wouldn’t expect him to win it every season or any given season, but when he came here I throughly expected him to do it before he moved on. I think City fans do, I think most football fans do, and I think he himself does. Whether it’s this year, next or the year after. He’s had four stabs before this and not done very well. They lost to Lyon last year, they would have expected to win that, that’s not them losing to Real Madrid or whatever.

If I had to pick between the two I'd rather it were City than the plastic 'entitled' lot over the road.

You ask any city fan, they’ll tell you pep has been a success for them.

3 prem titles in the last 4, 3 out of 5 in total.
4 league cups (on the bounce)
1 fa cup

no one had that success in this country other than Fergie. He only won the champions league twice in all his years.

they have no right just to beat Lyon last year, throw in covid and how many weird results did it throw up anyway.

If he loses the champions league final, he’s still be a resounding success

I've yet to meet a City fan who doesn't think Pep isn't already a legend of their club.

Absolutely ridiculous to even think otherwise for what he's achieved there.

The benchmark some set for Pep is so high, it goes to show how good of a manager he really is.

' They certainly wouldn’t be crowing about Pep had they only won FA and League Cups under him.' - Atypical. This is just nonsense. Every City fan wants Pep to stay and they adore him. Can't fault them neither.

How many records has he broken there? And not only City records, but footballing records.

8 trophies (and a CL final) in 5 seasons - 3 of which are league titles in that time too...I think the City fans are more than 'crowing'

He’s delivering the the bare minimum that he should be with the team and resources he has at his disposal. If he doesn’t win it this year there is a strong case to say he has under achieved - five years with those players and money is long enough.

🤣🤣🤣 the bare minimum?

You've misunderstood my point. What I was saying is that domestic cups aren't enough and are largely irrelevant. Had they won 0 league titles in this 5 years and a plethora of League Cups he wouldn't have lasted this long. Its all about the PL and the CL, no one judges managers by League Cups anymore, certainly not at that level with that amount spent.

This season he's done well to get the title back and he will have done well to win the CL if they do.

Best manager ever, or of his generation? He's got to win the CL this season (or at least before he leaves) in my opinion. Yes the bar is high because being called the best manager of a generation is a high bar. There are still some elements of the debate left for him to settle.

"they have no right just to beat Lyon last year" - no idea what this means. So they have no right to win it so he shouldn't be judged on it? How does that work? Woodgate had no 'right' to win any of his games so maybe we should have kept him? Don't get that at all.

Up until now his European record at City has been poor. Sorry but that's a fact.

Do you know anybody who thinks he has over achieved?
Exactly this. When he came in nobody was saying 'Oh I wonder if Pep can bring a league title or two to the Etihad'. City fans expect to win it at least every other season given the money. 3 out of 5 is a good return but its not over and above their wildest dreams. They got rid of Pellegrini cos he'd gone more than one season without it, even though they progressed in the CL.

There are a lot of plastic entitled City fans these days who are every bit as bad as United fans from the Ferguson era. That's one of the things success brings you.

Give over ! - compared to the Real Madrid, Juventus, Barcelona, Bayern, Scousers, Man U's of this world .... absolutely horrible clubs with a massive sense of entitlement and ego.

Yes, City might have bought their success, but I find them them the most likeable (OK, maybe least objectionable) of the "big" clubs
