Repeat after me ‘bald, fraud’

You can compare records as much as you like, but for me it's the transformative effect he has on the style of football of his teams.
Of course he has been given the funds and has massive talent pools at his disposal, but as I said earlier, he makes players better. The fact that others try to emulate his style and methods should be enough validation that his peers hold him in high esteem. Also, the fact that many struggle to make his methods work is testament to how good he is.
Agree with this.

The list of players he hasn't improved would be easier to compile, than the list of players he has improved.

Barcelona b were in the 4th tier, therefore his methods work on a lower quality player

Not sure that's true. They're not a hugely successful side.

I'd guess the purpose of Barca B is to produce players who play that way rather than win matches.

You win the CL by spending money. No real time for the competition. Its difficult to compare managers across leagues in Europe because the spending power is very lopsided.

It's usually the best funded manager that wins both the epl and the champions league.

Be interesting to see the net spend across the big European teams year on year and champions league success.

That's kind of true but it took Chelsea 9 years and City 12+ to win it from becoming funded by a bottomless pit (that's assuming City do win it soon).

If it was all about spending, Juventus, PSG, Man City, Barcelona and Man United would be winning it every year and the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool wouldn't have had a chance.

Bayern Munich are the 17th highest spenders in the last 10 years.

Liverpool's spending has been dwarfed by the likes of Arsenal, Man United and Man City.
West Ham have spent more than Liverpool in the last 5 years.
They've actually spent less than 11 of the 20 current Premier League sides in the last 5 years and they reached two finals in a row.
Though obviously a huge part of that is the income from selling Coutinho.

Explains why they're finishing above them now.

Steady!! City fans with a bit about them or few years behind them have witnessed the best football ever seen at City!! They’re still in dreamland.
This. I know many City who are treasuring every cup they win and whilst I get you measure success by trophies and the CL is the ultimate I prefer to measure a manager by the type of football they play. And City for me are the best team to watch no question. In that respect Guardiola doesn’t have to win the CL Final to prove the plaudits he gets.

I agree with this; City are pretty much the perfect team, how do you actually exploit their weaknesses? They are great at playing through the lines and equally great at the counter-attack. They play brilliant expansive, attacking football, but are rock solid defensively.

Guardiola has definitely evolved as a manager - his Barca team, as good as it was, was eventually undone by teams that played very fast counter-attacking football and although it wasn't often they were beaten, it was their achilles heel.

If there's any justice they will prevail in the final, but I have a sneaky suspicion that Chelsea, another English club, could be a much harder game than Real.

Great post. Totally agree.

No other manager plays that brand of football and gets the success he gets from doing it.

All my mates round here are City fans and some are season ticket holders. I also work with as many City as United. They didn’t care about the League Cup win last week, or the one last year, or the year before that.

They care about PL and now CL. For years they pretended they didn’t care about the CL too. Obviously that’s all changed now.

You do appear to have a massive downer on Manchester City?

There's a difference between not caring at all, and not caring as much.

The city fans I speak to obviously want to win the PL & CL more than anything else...but that certainly doesn't mean they 'don't care' about other trophies.

They were over the moon with the League Cup win the other week.

Would they swap it for a CL trophy? In a heartbeat.

Does it mean they don't care about the League Cup? Certainly not.

Well I have a downer on all of the 'big 6' sides tbh, but City are in my view one of the least likeable clubs in world football.

They appear to be quite universally admired on this board though, which I don't really understand but horses for courses.

I think it is possibly that many of our fans don't see a lot of City fans seeming entitled and superior. Lots of them seem to remember being also rans and don't take success so much for granted.

Your beef seems to be about UAE states, rather than the fans so much.
I can't get away with Liverpool more because of their fans, but that's not everyone's view.
It wouldn't do if we all thought the same.

Yes that's true. City do generally appear quite popular on here though, for whatever reason (Pep perhaps). I bet if I slagged off Chelsea all the time I wouldn't have to explain myself half as much. The truth is I don't like Chelsea either, having lived in Fulham too. I guess it all depends on personal circumstances. :)
