Reparation

Happy to do nothing v posting something about reparations on FMTTM
Lets call it a score draw ;)

Sorry I meant are you happy for nothing to be done about it?
When/if the dust settles the world MUST learn lessons from this.
We need to be better prepared for the next one and learn more about it's origins.

So why didn't we do it to the US when Spanish flu mutated? Ourselves when mad cow disease happened? Saudi Arabia when MERS hit humans?

I honestly think you need to read up on how novel viruses mutate. It's very silly to me to suggest blaming a country for a natural event. Whats next? The last hurricane to devastate the US developed off the canary Islands. Should Spain be repairing the damage?

I've told you before. Do your trolling elsewhere.

Agree with all of this. I just utterly disagree with blaming China because it doesn't make sense.

How is using common sense "trolling"? Also unless you have another user account, which I suspect may be the case, I can't see any interaction between us previously. I think you may have give a bit too much away there!

Being better prepared is an interesting one. I read reports early in March that we had done the scenario planning a couple of years ago - but did little to nothing about.
That is pretty shocking - so I am all for learning lessons and making people accountable.

The other niggling point I have is the seriousness of this. Of course, for those who have had it and those who have been taken by it - it is serious.
The death stats are really interesting (and they have to be the acid test). From Mid May to late September UK deaths, on a weekly basis, were largely in line with the 5 year average (they key government measure).
We have to assume the virus has been spreading in those 4 and a half months.

Also, I read, the average age for someone dying is 82. The average age for those dying with no Covid is 81?

It is all a bit of a conundrum, have no idea what to make of it other than there appears to be more than 1 side to the debate.

You can berate the Chinese as much as you like but you have to admit they do bloody good takeaways 😛

Agreed, they have also diversified into Indians lately, although a word of warning, word has it they are apparently microwaved 😬

Hard to blame the Chinese for the virus itself however they could have locked down sooner to prevent the export of the virus once they were aware of it.

I genuinely think nobody thought this would happen. They looked at the costs for being prepared and thought nah taht will never happen. Hopefully a lesson learnt for the world and when the next one comes which it will (probably in our lifetimes) then we are all better prepared.

We did think this would happen though. Pretty much everyone knew something like this was possible. I belive we looked into it after SARS. Then did nothing
