China should pay?

Yes 1 finny and what about Attila the Hun? FFS.
The question is about Covid 19.
Start another thread about Windrush (y)

Reparations?

I could never get my head around people shouting that we should pay reparations for our involvement in the slave trade! Who EXACTLY should pay? Ancestors of slave traders or the ordinary citizens of this country?

For?
Little hint: if you say Genocide of Uighur Muslims, then yes you're right.

If you started this thread thinking a country should pay for a disease mutating then you are very very wrong and probably should learn more.

I really do not feel current generations should pay money for past behaviours of previous generations. There are plenty of countries and races that behaved in a way that modern societies would hopefully find abhorrent. Some countries still abuse their own to unacceptable levels sadly. Blind eyes are turned in our ridiculous wokeness. There are wealthy people today that are of colour too that have made their riches thanks to behaviours that have gone before that we in our culture would not find acceptable. Nobody can change their past, nobody. If people think paying money now for their forefathers conduct makes things kind of ok, then that says an awful lot about them. Money must be in some ways more important to them
What REALLY matters is current behaviours to one another, treating everyone with fairness, kindness and respect. Money in all its forms does nothing more than corrupt peoples thinking. It seems to me the more people have, the greedier they can often become.

The here and now is what matters and paves the way for future generations, not dwelling in the past. History is a useful tool for learning and reflection, behaviours in the present is what shapes the future.

Shut about countries!!!!!
Our bubble is the Earth we have reached a point where our mistreatment of it has consequences in many ways. To fix this we need a global effort. At the moment that is years away. Too many short term thinking politicians of many parties thinking of themselves. Hopefully a new group of free thinking young people can find a way to start to solve our multitude of problems.

I don’t think there are any suggestions mad cow disease was deliberately released into herds.

We do not know how covid-19 was contracted by humans. We do know a lab in Wuhan was experimenting with it and it is entirely feasible that it was deliberately released as well as it being accidental. It is also feasible it was a coincidence this lab happened to have the stuff on its premises and stored it safely and the outbreak was from a market, we do not know for sure. We do know, thanks to those loveable rogues in the Kremlin, that foreign states do naughty things on purpose and we do know the Chinese economy was not in a growth period at the time but has shown a 3.2% growth since, thanks in part to covid related sales around the world. We do know the Chinese government is flexing its muscles with its neighbours and some of the superpowers.

What this has shown, is how easy it could be to develop a virus as a way to bring a nation to its knees. Think about it, if you could develop a deadly virus and then develop a vaccine. Vaccinate those who you wanted to vaccinate in society then release the virus around the world. Oh what power and financial clout a nation or indeed a megalomaniac would have over others. The world of the Ernst Stavro Blofeld types is not as far fetched as you might think

Ok then - we could start with Mad Cow disease which originated here
Or, is this just a daft anti China rant
Nobody is ranting. Anti-China yes but my point would have applied to anywhere else that wreaked this havoc on the world.
I guess you're happy to do nothing. Covid is very serious, the next one could be worse.

So why didn't we do it to the US when Spanish flu mutated? Ourselves when mad cow disease happened? Saudi Arabia when MERS hit humans?

I honestly think you need to read up on how novel viruses mutate. It's very silly to me to suggest blaming a country for a natural event. Whats next? The last hurricane to devastate the US developed off the canary Islands. Should Spain be repairing the damage?
