reliable broadband/wifi around the house

Anyone had problems with any particular providers and found that changing helped? If so, which providers are best for this kind of thing?

My current house is a bit bigger than last one, by no means a mansion but whatever I do/say to Sky (and they've even sent people out) they just can't stop it dropping out intermittently around the house. This despite having Q boxes in a number of rooms and 2 signal boosters.

Exactly the same as you. I was with Sky and it just constantly went off dozens of times a day. I got fed up of engineers coming out and saying everything was fine. Finally went to virgin a couple of weeks ago and it is brilliant. Really fast and never drops out. I swapped the tv straight back to sky tho coz hated virgin.

Interested to read this. Do you have Sky Q and does it work ok with Virgin broadband etc? My internet contract is up, but TV one isn't, and I do quite like the Sky user interface.

Yeah have Sky Q. I changed both the tv and broadband. I was paying £80 ish and got the same package from virgin for £50.But changed the tv back coz like you prefer sky interface etc. Sky were desperate to have me back and gave me tv for half price. Both work brilliant together. Virgin have an offer on their broadband for new customers too so I'd deffo recommend mate.

Ok will look into it, thanks.

BTW how long did you have to wait to change the TV back?

Do you get good wifi signal and good multiroom around the house? How many rooms do you watch telly in? Just trying to compare. Mine works fine for about 50 minutes per hour, but just drops out repeatedly far too frequently.

I didn't have to wait because the tv was still running until the end of the month. I just switched them back over and cancelled virgin tv within the 15 days.
We have multi room in three bedrooms upstairs, mine and the kids. My eldest was always complaining that in her bedroom it took about 24hrs to download an Xbox game, or her tv dropped out none stop. She downloads a game now in an hour or so and tv hasn't gone off once.

By a decent asus or nighthawk router the router boxes from sky and virgin are pants. I have a decent asus router and just use the virgin box in modem mode and its rock solid

I just got a Mesh Wifi system. Plugs into the router, sends good signal to three different nodes which devices can connect to and switch between seamlessly. If you've ever used Wifi in a big building at work etc, then that is the type of system that is used. I needed it for WfH. I get about half of my 360Gb internet in the furthest room which previously struggled to even pick up a signal. Cost about £120 for these about 3 months ago so look out for deals on them or something similar https://www.amazon.co.uk/Deco-M5-Coverage-Replacement-Antivirus/dp/B071241G3R

Yep, I went with a mesh system very similar to Mike. Not had any drop-outs since I installed it, which was very easy to do

Before we struggled if we were both on video calls. Router is downstairs, my office in the first floor, wife's in her office in the attic. No problems since

Has also improved the range so it works much better in the garden

I got a mesh system also after getting advice on here. Can now get a decent signal 35m away from the house at the bottom of the garden.

The thing is Sky Q miniboxes are supposed to create their own mesh system.

Doesn't it just use it's own Mesh to talk to each other. It's not a mesh network that other devices can connect to afaik. Sonos is the same.

While we have some people with Mesh systems here I'm going to hijack... Has anyone with a Mesh got Sonos working on the Mesh? I can't get my Sonos One to connect. When I run the wizard it takes forever and fails. I have had no problem with my Amazon Echos or any other device, just my Sonos.

Its supposed to act as a mesh that other devices connect to and boost signal around the home. My problem is that the actual miniboxes don't seem to have a stable connection between them and short of running cables everywhere, it just seems like something that will never be properly solved.

Yes I've got 3 Sonos speakers on my mesh although admittedly I seem to recall them all dropping off at one point. I've since reinstated the connection and had no issues. One of them did seem to take a few attempts to reconnect for some reason.
