Redcar Blast Furnace

I was in and out of the site all the time during SSI's reign supplying radios to different parts. was there the last time the blast went as well, all the guys i was talking to thought it was done and just accepted it was the last time, everyone knew the game was up.

It's a shame but it had to go to make way for the new. Politicians on both sides banging on about making steel show just how out of touch they were/are, we need jobs and growth not nostalgia and empty promises.

I was on the shift that blew it in all those years ago. Working in the control room and recording charges, pressures, gas flows, temperatures, water flows and a million other things. Spent 16 years on it.

I remember in December, 1998 there was "Merry Xmas" in lights at the top. I think there was a new contract signed.
Our late dad worked there on the coke ovens in the late 70's early 80's.
He was badly burnt when the pre-heater blew and was in hospital for ages.
He later became senior safety rep. There were terrible accidents and fatalities over the years.
He always said, "I don't care whatever jobs my kids get, as long as it's not working at BSC".

Heartbreaking to see it go.

So many happy memories of the place. It wasn't just a job it was your family too.

The old saying was it doesn't matter what you are on the outside once you go through those gates you are a steelmaker.
RIP RBF

I helped commission a lot of the electrics at RBF before it went into operation.
Felt like it and the folks working there would be there forever the day they fired it up.
How are the mighty have fallen.

Anyone know how to share large files on here. Someone has sent me the demolition contractor's video but it's too big to drop here.

burning all that up for scrap does not sound very 'green'.
It's "greener" than digging new iron ore out of the ground and making that into steel. And then there will be other metals in there too I would expect, copper probably in cabling (unless that has already been stripped)
